Seeing giant beetles often now in MI. Haven't seen them more than a couple of times before, now it's almost weekly. About 2.5" long, dark brown/purple.

Re: Wierd bugs this year
Large mutant bugs are one thing. We've been infested with mutant dust mites for over a year. It started with aggressive ones that went straight in my ears and I used duct tape for a couple of months to try and keep them out. They caused infections in my ears, I ended up in the emergency room, and they didn't see anything and didn't really do anything substantial.

It's much better now, almost totally under control, though all our clothes are still in trash bags except a few. I am the only one who is affected by it, and it may be acariasis partially or something. The subject gets very complex when you're trying to figure out what the hell is happening, what is attacking you.

Thing is, this doom is not those large bugs you can just squish, it's that if something is mutating the biosphere's inhabitants at small levels, God knows what's going on at microscopic levels, where there's little you can do to stop them, and you can't just squish them because you can't see them.

There are tons of horror stories like mine all over the internet, people begging for help, in much worse situations. Go look! Current medical systems cannot deal with microscopic parasites very well, especially mutated organisms which have not even existed until now.

I believe it is radioactive mutation happening from Fuku, the insect populations are part of the same biosphere in which starfish and lots of other species are mutating, even melting. It is classical radioactive sickness and mutation if you ask me. The bugs feed off of the carcasses of all the organisms that are experiencing mass die off recently, and this bio-morphology has been going on now since 2011, plenty of time for all these new organisms to get established. Oh well, nature at work, adjusting to the circumstances.

Extinction level event, anyone? Even if it's not, the biosphere will need a lot of healing and it will take a while.

Could have been. I'm not sure though because i snagged it mid air with a clap. The remains were like a powdered mosquito.

I have my own pictures of that thing. Those are scary looking, extremely fast, and they watch your every move. I tried to capture the one I photographed, I didn't get within 10 feet of it before it flew off faster than any other bug I've sen flying.

It's funny that you posted this.

Yesterday, I saw the weirdest looking lizard that did not look anything that I have ever seen.

It had a copper head and black and white spotted body.

I uploaded a picture of it, and as soon as it is approved, I will post it.

Edited to add my pictures:
:weirdlizard:
This was the first picture before it started to change colors
:weirdlizard2:
This was the lizard changing to darker colors.

I've been seeing a lot of tropical looking beetles out here in Ontario that I have never run into before. Spend a lot of time in nature, but not sure if I've just been passive about bugs in the past.

I was camping in the U.P. and a

Small fluorescent green wasp flew

Near my lantern. I put my finger out

To point to it and show the other campers

What I had discovered and the little

Bastard stung me.

Ouch! It really hurt.

Never saw a wasp at night though.

It was a beauty green color eh?

I almost moved to Florida recently. Tampa area. We had our minds made up but then we couldn't bring ourselves to move away from family. I am a big kid and if I was in a place like Florida it would feel like a whole new life in front of me with the insects and reptiles. Plus the ocean which I thrive when exploring marine life. My life just feels better when I experience stuff I find interesting. I have never been south of Canada yet.

Might easily be the result of the steep decline in the bat population in MI (White Nose disease).

I see here much less bees, as previous years, there are only a few that I see flying and they are not honeybees, but wasps.

Also they act really weird, I saw a few ones, the bumblebee and wasps too cleaning themselves on the ground and they didn't want to move.

Haven't yet seen honeybees, though all the plants are thriving.

Yes.

I found a Brown Recluse in my basement. I almost shit my pants.

Lots of weird bugs I've never seen in my life this spring, its insane.

I've also got a Carpenter Bee problem, but I've made some traps that seem to be taking care of those crooked fuckers.

Supposedly there's something like 20,000 new species discovered per year, over half of which are insects. You could spend a lifetime studying them and still barely scratch the surface.

New Orleans area here. We had these for a couple of weeks when we had torrential rains. Have never seen them before a couple of weeks ago and they are aggressive too. One of them got into the house and I finally was able to kill it. But the battle was epic and it kept charging at me. I used hairspray and flea/tick spray to get him to be still enough so I could smack him dead. It's been dry for a couple of weeks and haven't seen any more.
