Russian jets engage US Navy as Black Sea rivalry intensifies

The US Navy has released video footage of Russian warplanes swooping over a US destroyer sailing in the Black Sea. The fighter jets made several passes over the ship.

Russian media reported that the USS Ross was behaving "aggressively".

The US Department of Defense said the ship was "well within international waters at all times, performing routine operations."

The Black Sea encounters are the latest sign of military tension between Russia and the West, amid a Kremlin-stoked war in eastern Ukraine.

Last month British and Swedish fighter jets were scambled to intercept Russian bombers near their borders.
