Explosion rocks Bull Shoals Dam

An explosion shook Bull Shoals Dam shortly after midnight this morning, and caused an apparent fire inside the dam.

A motorist passing over the dam called 911 to report having seen and heard an explosion as she passed over the dam shortly after midnight, according to police radio traffic.

Area fire departments, including crews from Grover Township and Bull Shoals, were dispatched to the scene to extinguish what was being called a transformer fire.

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the scene early this morning would not comment on the fire, which appeared to have been extinguished, as firefighters began leaving the scene around 1:30 a.m.

It is not known the extent of the damage inside the dam, or how the incident will effect power generation. There were no injuries reported in connection with the incident.

Yeah, we had the same thing happen at chickamauga dam some years back...it was terrific. We were waiting in line a the cracho smell and there was a bright brilliant blue flash and then all the lights in the area went out...we were several miles away and it was still fantastic.

Equipment explodes at Bull Shoals Dam

Officials at Bull Shoals Dam spent most of Thursday assessing damage after an explosion and fire at the dam.

Bull Shoals and Grover firefighters were called to the dam just past midnight Thursday when a piece of equipment known as a ìpot headî exploded on the transformer deck, scattering oil and ceramic insulator pieces.

Bull Shoals Dam acting power plant supervisor Steve Hernandez said the explosion set off a 30-foot to 40-foot fireball and made the powerhouse tremor. Oil from the equipment caught fire, but fire crews were able to quickly put out the fire, he said. Nine people were working at the dam at the time, but no one was injured, he said.

Here, Here....I am from Arkansas as well.....and I have all my teeth, a college degree...close to my masters degree I might add, I don't do drugs either, and I am a business professional. I don't know where the individual who posted such drivvle went to school, but they need to repeat a few grades. They also need to stop embrassing themselves by showing such ignorance about a state they have more than likely never have visited....
