Be as unabashed about your beliefs as you want to. Advocate any policy, decry any morality.

BUT, threatening actual harm to government officials with the power and authority to come arrest, swat, and or otherwise dispose of you with prejudice is Darwin award material.

Seriously, don't threaten people with bodily harm in writing on the most publically available mode of communication since the smoke signal. It's just not a good idea.
 Quoting: Resister

You missed the point totally; you do not have to "threaten actual harm" any statement a corrupt judge/police thug/political parasite "deems" threatening is good enough in America.

Failure to grasp the distinction is Darwin award material.

Re: DOJ orders site to turn in commenters
a threat of bodily harm is not a 1st amendment issue. its a crime.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69081689

No, it's not, it's protected political speech, the judge is a tyrant, he can be spoken of harshly. He may not like it, but it's no crime. If freedom of speech wasn't intended for this then it wouldn't have been put there by a group of men throwing off a politicalr institution presumed legitimate at the time, with judges, governor s and various other agents all the way up to the monarchy,

Too bad the recent supreme court ruling pertaining to threatening social media posts would have the case tossed right away.

Re: DOJ orders site to turn in commenters
imo folks that write comments to news stories, no matter how provocative, are protected by the 1st amendment. The goverment should respect the news sites right to protect their readers/commentators privacy.

It's no secret that readers comments are more interesting and appealing to readers than the original stories.

Since these controversial opinions contribute to the revenue/taxes generated by page views etc that enable the electronic publication to survive...they should be protected as editorially privileged information.

They did that up in Canuckistan for bullying. The guy was tracked down, arrested, and lost his job over it. Free speech my ass!

Re: DOJ orders site to turn in commenters
a good rule of thumb is to never threaten anyone online.

However, threats to judges need to be investigated. Its a serious issue that could further weaken and corrupt the American justice system.

Really, even though we the people get threatened by "authority" at every turn? With death, or imprisonment, or stealing our property. Please... what's good for the goose is good for the gander so to speak...

Is is also free speech protected by the constitution, stop being sheep people and stand up or you'll be on your knees to the corporate "government" the rest of your lives...

You'd be incorrect in that opinion. Threats can be prosecuted.
 Quoting: Booger Cancer

This is true, HOWEVER, if you read the comments that these folks left they are NOT threats, they are "suggestions" and we all know that there is a fine line between a suggestion/ opinion and a threat. It's a difficult distinction.

“It’s judges like these that should be taken out back and shot,” a user named Agammamon wrote, according to the filing.

The comment IMO is just a free floating thought. Now if the person said "I should take this judge out back and shoot him", THEN THAT IS A THREAT. It's a tough one.

Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist.

Wonder what kind of punishment the commenters will receive, I think it'll be either some re-education camp or the chair. Probably life without parole.

Bullshit, be just and have grace and then say what you want, depends on what was said.

We cannot have a peaceful society if we literally burn folks at the stake. But should a corrupt judge that ruined multiple lives be made to pay for his offenses in some fashion? You're damned straight. And say it. I know I will. Come at me.

i agree, except fuck grace. i personally think all government officials should be ready for tar and feathering (to say the least) if there corrupt, self serving dishonesty comes to light. that includes visit to their homes that were paid for by us.

Sad that people don't really stop to think before they say the first thing that comes to mind. Threatening harm or death to someone is not a "protected right", never has been.

Freedom doesn't abdicate the need for personal responsibility and accountability.

Consider before you post:

The Department of Justice has ordered libertarian website Reason.com to turn over the information of six commenters after they made threats against the federal judge who presided over the Silk Road trial.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64815861

Read the comments, they aren't any worse than the ones Liberals post daily on other sites about Conservative/Christians/Tea Party or white people.

Seems to me that the DOJ is claiming only certain lives matter.

Besides, didn't the courts demand that the IRS turn over their information? All the site has to say is their server crashed.
Like that Clinton Democrat.

I don't.

I have an agreement with spooks, shadows, demons, and satan on this planet. No one group helps another ever for any reason. No killing between the groups. You keep what you find.

I will say anything and mean it with 100 intentionality.

Admins on this site are sellouts of the system and delete the real truth.

Satan and Jesus are two faces of the same coin. Some of you babies will realize this soon and probably off yourselves in the proces.

Humans all humans especially the uninitiated are serfs

Your technology is thousands of years ahead of what you might think good luck getting the private sector, religion, or military sharing their actual knowledge with you in these areas.

God is intersexed

All sexuality is a agenda designed to drain your energies and mind's eye

Female witches are killing off the last of the patriarchs, they already are in place to turn the transhuman agenda on itself.

Leylines and pyramids are remants of a lost power grid.

AI already exists in various forms. Hackers right now could have legit quantum computing if they ditched a binary only system for a multi phasing binary system.

DOJ, FBI, CIA, not a single agency will pay me a visit for any of this truth why cause the truth isn't disturbing the peace. Idiots get disappeared when they stick a fork in the socket or threaten to do so.

No, free speech does not include the right to threaten anyone's life. Period.

And why is the judge automatically corrupt? This silk road guy was consciously and intentionally hosting a massive drug trafficking site and making a fortune out of peoples' suffering and addiction and facilitating even further addiction and even deaths. What if he were hosting a massive pedo or other human trafficking site? Would you still consider him cool and make him your free speech hero?

At some point society has to put its foot down. And it did.
