I didn't watch the video but twice recently I have come across a person on the bus with a service dog and in both situations they had mental upsets that the dog could detect and get attention.. I think its a great idea....

One of them had bi polar and the dog was trained in particular to recognize the depressive part which was a serious issue for the person and I can't remember what the other had...

Oh come on, there are lots of times when a parent is away, even in complete two-parent families. At work, in a different room, whatever.

And sometimes a human is not the one that can calm down the kid in that situation. That dog did something a human cannot do with an adult child, that sort of cuddling.

I grew up with a dog, and maybe that's why I was always pretty calm. I have two boys now that would benefit immensely from that kind of cuddling available when they need it, but my wife doesn't want the mess in the house (esp. dog smell) that does come with having a dog.

Get a small dog. Everything about a small dog is easy; small poop, tiny small hairs, small bark, travels easily and food costs are reasonable.

Probably not, but even when it's possible, it just doesn't happen. Dogs don't do that.

Maybe rabid dogs, maybe dogs protecting their owners from an attacker. But basically it just doesn't happen. Ever.

She doesn't want any poop (i.e. need for walking), hairs, etc. Growing up we solved the poop problem by having a dog run with a door flap that the dog could go in and out through.

But there's still the shedding and "dog smell" on the furniture. Because the dog went wherever the people did, and that was fine with us then.

It is not made up, you wouldn't say that if you had it. It can be gotten rid of, but Drs. are not allowed to tell you how. Gluten intolerance causes all kinds of weird things. I know first hand just how horrible it can be. It is a very lonely life, I had to live alone because I would get in shouting arguments with someone I had seen earlier in the day. They were not even there. And I could not stop screaming for hours or until I lost my voice and screamed silently. I hope you never ever have to deal with it. I was not born with it, so I looked for a way to get rid of it. But it is very real.

A human could do the same, but we have to put up with them anyway.
I feel sorry for you, compasion is very real in animals and it might help you if you really got to know one.
