Well actually once you reach the Tropopause the temperature stops getting colder and gets warmer as one gets higher into the stratosphere. So it a supercell got to 80,000 it would be warmer there than at 50,000 feet. The updrafts in a supercell would most likely keep temps higher within the cloud as well. As far as blocks of Ice . . . sort of, it is called hail. LoL!! Also, you identified the origin of natures contrails . . . they are called cirrus clouds, they are created when wind shears lop off the top of thunder heads and then form ice crystal clouds. This like those triggered by jet exhaust only form when conditions are optimal. In fact, aircraft can trigger cirrus at less optimal conditions than thunder heads and wind shears.
