Tennessee House prepares 'Pastor Protection Act' In Response to gay marriage SCOTUS Ruling
Reps Bryan Terry and Andy Holt are currently drafting the bill.

"To my friends of faith, to those who endear the principles of social conservatism, and to those who ascribe to the original intent of the Tenth Amendment, we must never give up,” declared Holt. “The Court has made it clear that they have no intention to uphold the principles of separation of power. It's more important now than ever that we stand and resist the abuse of our own government and that is exactly what I plan to do by lobbying for the Pastor Protection Act with Rep. Terry.”

I personally don't care if people are gay and want to get married - would have been okay with the civil union approach. I think it's weird, but hey, whatever.

What I do care about is Federal overreach and the violation of religious rights.

Proud to have been born in Texas, and I hope the Tennessee House makes me proud of that I currently reside here in the Volunteer State.

True, they'll try whatever means to invalidate State laws. We'll see how strong a stand some of the states are willing to take.

Good job Texas and Louisiana for having the balls to resist.

I wonder how many other states are in the process of drafting legislation like Tennessee.

Strange as it may sound, this kind of overreach can lead to succession.

It brings to mind the political atmosphere before Utah War and the 'Civil War'.

Easy fix don't stay in the gov. exempt thing, then you are free from abuse, you are on The Lord Gods' side. Better to be with The Lord God even with out a building which is not the church than to be at the mercy of The unborn, I was going to call them heathens but thought better of it. Unborn is polite. Same difference, just nice, and polite.

Ain't that right sweetie.:) yep. Well later sweetie. In a minute sweetie, yep.:)

Good to hear. Rep Bryan Terry is my state representative. I called his office today... to advocate for secession. So, this isn't what I wanted, but it's a start.

Re: Tennessee House prepares 'Pastor Protection Act' In Response to gay marriage SCOTUS Ruling
If it passes it wont be worth the paper its printed on

Tennessee already has a Tennessee Marriage protection Amendment

The historical institution and legal contract solemnizing the relationship of one man and one woman shall be the only legally recognized marital contract in this state. Any policy or law or judicial interpretation, purporting to define marriage as anything other than the historical institution and legal contract between one man and one woman is contrary to the public policy of this state and shall be void and unenforceable in Tennessee. If another state or foreign jurisdiction issues a license for persons to marry and if such marriage is prohibited in this state by the provisions of this section, then the marriage shall be void and unenforceable in this state

They should uphold this Amendment and Stop issuing All marriage license if they cant uphold what the people of
Tennessee voted on But there already issuing License
and marrying same sex couples So there new draft is worthless

Yeah, I called Haslam's office too. Told the lady who answered the phone that he should either grow a set and be a real governor instead of a Washington DC lickspittle or resign.

This is an entirely unnecessary law. No one can force a "Pastor" to marry anyone. However, a magistrate who marries people in a civil ceremony needs to uphold the law and marry same sex couples, or resign.
Just don't make anything up.
