The Mormons don't perform marriage ceremonies in the Mormon Temple. The perform sealing ceremonies, which is an eternal bonding for all time and eternity.

In order to be sealed in the Temple, one must have a valid Temple recommend (answer questions to a lay Bishop regarding doctrine and sustaining of Elders in the church, and teachings of Jesus Christ) and already have a signed certificate of civil union from the local magistrate where the sealing ceremony is to be performed.

I am a Mormon. Our church leaders already made it policy that lay leaders no longer are able to sign the state issued marriage license. The Prophet knew this was coming. So basically you go get your marriage license filled out and witnessed by someone at the state. You then bring this to the temple and they will perform the spiritual eternal marriage with is just a covenant with God. Afterall what man seals on earth (government marriage). Is on no enforce in heaven. It means nothing in eternity. The temple marriage however is sealed by God and therefor is eternal.

I think you're right. I've heard, over the years, that some Churches had done just that & forfeited their 501 C-3 status'. This was before the new "gay wedding" issue, but rather mostly for becoming free to preach/teach as they saw fit, without threats from the Gov't. I don't recall every hearing specific problems afterwards, but now I'm thinking they could've been burned to ground, set up with "kiddy stuff", or who knows what else....

It would not surprise me at all if things don't go so well for many of them once they make tha split. Especially now!

Lol. Church members pay taxes and lots of taxes for police protection, fire protection and other municipal services. They are getting no more of a free ride going to a church on Sunday than if they were going to a public park or beach.

As far as the rest, clergy pay taxes on any income as clergy.

I believe the reason churches get the tax free exemption is because some do a lot of charity work and contribute to their communities in various ways. For example, my church donates time and money to the local rescue mission and local food banks. We do clothing drives for kids back to school clothes. We support local and worldwide missions (including children with aids in Thailand, orphanages in Thailand, and mission projects in India). We also support poverty stricken children in our community by providing meals on weekends. There are so many bad things people are saying about churches here, and I am sure there is a lot of corruption that goes on. But there are some churches who earn that tax exempt status by helping others.
That being said, I know my church would willingly give up the tax exempt status if it meant going against God's word.

Sad things is, I think you're right. I was always told and always felt that when the attack comes against the Church it would not be a visible 'war-like' aspect, but instead an attack by evil from infiltration.

To the last church they ALL have already sold out. Tey ceded their 1st amendment rights to talk about political-related issues in exchange for the money - why would this be any different?
