It's really hard to see how you can accuse someone of economic "terrorism" on Saturday, then re-open talks with them on Monday.

Yanis Varoufakis accuses creditors of terrorism ahead of Greek referendum

Finance minister’s rhetoric, arguing that troika is instilling fear in people, comes as Greece prepares to vote on country’s future in eurozone

Yanis Varoufakis, the Greek finance minister, has accused the country’s creditors of terrorism, in an interview published on Saturday.

“What they’re doing with Greece has a name: terrorism,” Varoufakis told Spain’s El Mundo. “What Brussels and the troika want today is for the yes [vote] to win so they could humiliate the Greeks. Why did they force us to close the banks? To instil fear in people. And spreading fear is called terrorism.”

Broken Europe

The Greek referendum is postmodern and I don’t mean that in a good way. The question is an ‘empty signifier’. No one can understand its literal meaning and that literal meaning is no longer relevant in any case. So you can think of referendum as a big symbol that you can fill with whatever you want; hopes, aspirations, worries, and disappointments all fit in nicely. Moreover, there is no reason any one person has to interpret the question in the same way as anyone else. On the contrary, politicians will try anything to find a hook that will pull you to their side of the issue. No wonder Greek society is evenly (if deeply) divided. Is the glass half full or half empty? Is it really a ‘glass’? What is ‘it’? Even the response assignments are counter-intuitive. According to the government, you vote ‘no’ to have a brighter future; according to the opposition, you vote ‘yes’ if you fear the unknown. What’s more the process itself is controversial. Greece’s detractors decry this whole exercise as a cynical manipulation; for Greece’s supporters, it is a celebration of democracy.

Varoufakis' and Tsipras' arguments can be summarized in one mantra repeated ceaselessly: they "humiliate the Greeks" we give Greeks back their "dignity"!

Any factual information, logical arguments and critical thinking are missing from their speeches.

Let's see how will Tsipras and Varoufakis restore the "dignity" of bankrupt Greeks. So far their only accomplishment is this: the inflow of illegal Arab immigrants by sea has increased more than threefold in Q1 2015 compared to Q1 2014!

BTW, freedom and dignity is a mantra common to all commies:
Thread: How USA lost it's COMMUNIST Party and it's freedom, virtue, and Dignity.

They have yet to come with an example of successful communist society. Maybe the North Korean style dignity is what they are looking for.

Tsipras receives support from the European far-Right

Marine Le Pen, "Alexis Tsipras is clearly a leader"

Before the referendum in Greece, the president of the Front National considers that the Prime Minister embodies "the policy voluntarism".

Marine Le Pen was "convinced" that the Greeks say "no" to the creditors and support the government Tsipras. "Blackmail or threat: the EU now no longer made it" attacks the president of the National Front. Before knowing the outcome of the referendum, it denounces the "responsibility" of the European inflexibility in the outcome of this consultation. But she also believes that creditors will yield because, she says, they do not want to "give Greece the opportunity to demonstrate that they are able to get out because it would mean the death of the euro."

This Is Why The Euro Is Finished

The IMF Debt Sustainability Analysis report on Greece that came out this week has caused a big stir. We now know that the Fund’s analysts confirm what Syriza has been saying ever since they came to power 5 months ago: Greece needs debt relief, lots of it, and fast.

We also know that Europe tried to silence the report. But what’s most interesting is that this has been going on for months, as per Reuters. Ergo, the IMF has known about the -preliminary- analysis for months, and kept silent, while at the same time ‘negotiating’ with Greece on austerity and bailouts.

And if you dig a bit deeper still, there’s no avoiding the fact that the IMF hasn’t merely known this for months, it’s known it for years. The Greek Parliamentary Debt Committee reported three weeks ago that it has in its possession an IMF document from 2010(!) that confirms the Fund knew even at that point in time.

That is to say, it already knew back then that the bailout executed in 2010 would push Greece even further into debt. Which is the exact opposite of what the bailout was supposed to do.

The 2010 bailout was the one that allowed private French, Dutch and German banks to transfer their liabilities to the Greek public sector, and indirectly to the entire eurozone‘s public sector. There was no debt restructuring in that deal.

I'm playing a MMO atm, and that's an excerpt from our chat:

Vasifan: im a 30 year old, below middle class Greek

Vasifan: i have a decree in economics from a public univercity

Vasifan: i work for 400 euros a month

Vasifan: we should have gottten rid of the corrupt politicians

Vasifan: 30 years ago

Vasifan: our next 30 years will be a hell

MyMans: Are you voting yes or no tomorow?

Vasifan: no

Vasifan: yess is supposed to

Vasifan: soften things up

Vasifan: but

Vasifan: all the middle class and higher people

Vasifan: are voting yes

Vasifan: and 30 years

Vasifan: they are the ones

Vasifan: who were comfortable with things going on

Vasifan: and they had a big share of the corruption

Vasifan: taking jobs without competitions

Vasifan: false helping funds

Vasifan: from programs for new buisnesses or for the poor and weak with false papers

Vasifan: and none of them moved a finger to change anything

Vasifan: "oh great we are in europe lets abuse every tiny fund we can get"

Aruc: If greece has to leave the eurozone, won't that be even worse for everyone there though because it will make the recession worse?

Vasifan: "oh shit we are going out of europe" "please poor people we should be on, we are all greeks"

Vasifan: yes

Vasifan: it will be a hell

Vasifan: one way or another

Aruc: yea this is true, but one way will get the hell past faster

Aruc: than the other

Aruc: and that'

Aruc: is the trick

Vasifan: listen

Vasifan: european leaders are accustomed to greek goverments that say yes to everything

Vasifan: this goverment said no

Vasifan: and they punish it

Vasifan: they want to change it

Vasifan: for a goverment that will keep saying yes

Vasifan: like in these 30 years

Vasifan: even if they are not harsh

Vasifan: with a new goverment

Vasifan: it will be again "tax everyone" "fund the middle + above class"

Vasifan: with a goverment like the one we have now

Vasifan: it will be

Aruc: ok, so the government is trying to make a statement about that. it'

Aruc: is understandable

Vasifan: "tax everyone depending of how they can pay"

Vasifan: "fund the ones who need it more"

Vasifan: but the european measures will be harsher

Vasifan: becaue they dont like tsipras

Aruc: what is a tsipra?

Vasifan: our prime minister

Aruc: ah lol ok

Vasifan: ALexis Tsipras

Vasifan: what makes me hate my gut

Vasifan: is people letting things go wrong when theemselves are ok

Vasifan: and then when something hurts them to

Aruc: yes he promised to resign if the people voted against him, but one of his government ministers was a bit more enthusiastic and said he'd rather cut off his arm than accept current european demands

Vasifan: they are like " oh common we have so much in common help me"

Aruc: people are greedy and look out for themselves, it's found everywhere....

Vasifan: well

Aruc: but not all the time

Vasifan: not people

Aruc: cuz people help eachother

Vasifan: asholes

Aruc: too

Vasifan: Human beings help each other

Vasifan: thats how we create things

Aruc: well people do what they think they can get away with unpunished

Vasifan: asholes destroy and take for themselves

Vasifan: would you push a kid on the throat if none would know?

Vasifan: punch*

Izerinatorized: why is there politics here?

Aruc: cuz his country is ****ed and he is upset

Aruc: and i mean really ****ed

Vasifan: yeap

Vasifan: im sure what got me started

minhus: hi

Matt_Mx: god damnit why it has to be like 40C in poland right now.

Izerinatorized: i think the world is, not a single country...

Vasifan: oh someone said happy independence day

Aruc: yes well quite a few countries in the world are it's true, but his is one of them

Vasifan: anyway sorry to bother you all with that

The_Atari_Kid: That was me ;) "The_Atari_Kid : Morning all. Happy Independence day, Americans."

Vasifan: short story is, people who have power should use it for common good

The_Atari_Kid: ^+1

Vasifan: if not its up to the people to get rid of them

Izerinatorized: but that's rare to happen

Vasifan: its rare because we dpont care enough

Aruc: it's not rare if people see some gain in it

Izerinatorized: if

Izerinatorized: ifffffffff

Vasifan: we should care

Aruc: it's just it's hard to see a tangible personal gain in everyone being helped a bit

Vasifan: we are supposed to be greater than anomals

Vasifan: and animals do care

Those Greeks with the big money have placed their money in safe havens outside of the E.U.

Yes or NO, greferendum itself is a loss for Greece. Difference between YES & NO is between very bad loss & catastrophic loss.

YES = bad
NO = truly ugly

The lesser of evils

The Greeks have to choose between the bad and the truly ugly in Sunday’s referendum. If I was Greek - and I’m not, although I speak the language and had a Greek great-grandmother - I would plump for the bad option, voting “Yes”.

Officially, this is a vote in favour of an offer made by Greece’s creditors on June 25, which would have involved Athens committing to more reforms and austerity in return for cash to stop it going bust. But this offer is no longer on the table. So what might happen after a “Yes” vote?

The most likely scenario is that Alexis Tsipras, the radical left prime minister who is advocating a “No” vote, would resign. Then there would be new elections. The opposition would probably form a united front, win the elections and cut a new deal with the creditors.
