He must have had a different calendar, or we're not eating right.

We live in a different world now- less oxygen, more toxins in our food and air, less protection from radiation, etc...

I think it's fairly simple answer. Because God wanted Adam to live that long, nothing short of that.

You will know that God spoke these words in Genesis:

Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years."

"Normal" and "In the future" life span, we rarely see anyone older than that today.

Pay attention to the key words, normal and future.

So in your question, you got an answer it's because God willed Adam to live that long, however the normal life span like you said above is 1000% less.

The bible has the answers you seek.

' insects similar to the modern day dragonfly had wingspans up to 65 centimeters (cm). Meganeura, a genus related to modern day dragonflies, had a wingspan as wide as a Sharp-shinned Hawk we see flying today. By comparison the largest dragonfly today lives in Costa Rica and has a wingspan of 19 centimeters (cm).'

Re: 930 years? How can a man, Adam - live that long?
The oldest of the old was Methuselah, Noah's grandfather.

Noah = Genesis chapters 6-9

Methuselah lived 969 years, and he died.

The narrative of Jesus' crucifixion and death refers to the sixth and ninth hours:

Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice … and breathed His last.

Seems no matter what calendar/food/whatever-- 969 is the max.

No offense, but that may be a little *too* simple. God uses mechanisms. One possibility I heard was the vapor canopy depleted during the flood had previously blocked substantial amounts of some kind outside radiation. I'm no expert, but there's always actual reasons we can dig for instead of just settling for "A wizard did it" ;)

Only God knows, but they all seemed to live longer back then. Maybe the oxygen was purer back then. But let's not forget, Adam and Eve walked with God. (Genesis 3:8)

930 years is nothing, if your expected life rate was for infinity.

Re: 930 years? How can a man, Adam - live that long?
Before the flood there was a large water canopy that surrounded the earth. air pressure was crazy off the charts compared to now. Look up old fossil records of giant creatures and insects that wouldn't be able to live today in today's atmospheric conditions.

Also, look up studies done of plants and life inside highly pressurized, high oxygen environments and how they grow much healthier and larger.

It's all there in the bible.

After the flood, the atmosphere changed, Earth changed. And the life spans of mankind dropped from the 700s - 1,000s to about 100s - 200s... then by the time you get to the children of Israel and Egypt stuff, the people are living only to about 120, 140... and here we are today with what? 70-80 years?

Read the bible, it's a great book of truth. especially for historic record!

And if you are so rebellious to refuse to even open the bible or accept it as truth, then look at historic fossil records and what life was like long ago. You'll put the pieces together. Also... stop being rebellious to Papa God! hf Love ya! hugs

As previous posters said, there was a water canopy that surrounded the earth. This canopy gave the world a green house effect and the air was more oxygenated. This increased oxygen allowed for life to be much larger and have longer life spans.

This is where we get the great flood story from. This canopy destabilized and caused the rain that flooded the earth.

Not convinced it was vapor! Some research I've seen suggests it was ice. a thick canopy of clear ice surrounding the globe. There was much higher oxygen content, reduced transmission of radiation to the surface. In those condition it has been experimentally shown that virtually all plants become giant. Plus reptiles don't stop growing during their lifetime so the prospect of dinosaurs coexisting with man fits and you would need them to help eliminate the constant overgrowth of plantlife.

When God by way of an external force or planetary body shattered the canopy, which fell to earth..the fountains of the deep, beneath the surface of earth broke through and the combination of the two water sources (above and below) flooded the earth. Afterward, without the radiation shield of the canopy above, lifespans of all living things became shorter, organisms mutated causing various diseases, etc. Mankind received a roughly 70 year natural lifespan when it was all over. All humankind lived exceptionally long lives prior to the flood of Noah.
