Can't hack into my 94 jeep cherokee!

Yes they can. All they gotta do is break into your car and put an OBDII dongle on your port (you know the little plug under your dash next to the hood release?) From there they have control of your locks, your throttle (via cruise control), your ABS if you have it, your air bags, your ignition and your gauges. There's about a hundred ways to fuck you from there. Unless your car is pre-OBD, you're vulnerable.

When I first watched the video I went from ---->S38 then all of a sudden I really woke up... S32 waitwhat S42

I had to re-watch that (00:22 - 00:31) 2 more times to confirm I heard that right!

The simplest being to lock your doors, set the cruise to 120mph then use the ABS to activate one brake to steer your car off a bridge or into a tree. Then the dongle starts a fire to destroy all the evidence.

You're in no way safe - even in a 90's car.

Wake up dude.

These guys aren't hacking anything!

They are hard-wired into the ECUs and controlling them with a laptop!

Re: Hackers Remotely Kill a Jeep on the Highway
Amazing & interesting read (incl. video) !!

snippet: I was driving 70 mph on the edge of downtown St. Louis when the exploit began to take hold.

Though I hadn’t touched the dashboard, the vents in the Jeep Cherokee started blasting cold air at the maximum setting, chilling the sweat on my back through the in-seat climate control system. Next the radio switched to the local hip hop station and began blaring Skee-lo at full volume. I spun the control knob left and hit the power button, to no avail. Then the windshield wipers turned on, and wiper fluid blurred the glass.

As I tried to cope with all this, a picture of the two hackers performing these stunts appeared on the car’s digital display: Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek, wearing their trademark track suits. A nice touch, I thought.

That is exactly why you dont get a vehicle that has built-in GPS, or internet, or wifi, or satellite, or remote anything.

Unless of course you like dying on the road as someone hacks your vehicle.

They should completely ban all of that technology from vehicles. Its a recipe for disaster and a way for murderers to kill people and get away with it.

Wrong.

They used the vehicles wifi detect capabilities and they've used GPS and other remote services like OnStar to hack into a vehicle and take control.

All major auto manufacturers are moving swiftly to eliminate manual transmissions and are moving to electric steering even faster than that. Once all cars have automatic transmissions and electric steering systems, TPTB can control ALL cars, remotely, in any way they choose. If that doesn't terrify you, you must be some kinda moran or something.

Scary thought for anyone with a newer internet, blue tooth, or wifi capable vehicle.

No computer hack is going to work on my 1969 Mustang though. No computer, no problem. chuckle

As a mechanic and engineer, the newest vehicle I'll own is a 2002. It has CAN bus for my own convenience, but does not have an IP address or wireless access. It also does not have hackable steering, no matter WHAT.

It would be very obvious if somebody hacked into the network with a dongle or harness.

Beware, people, the more you allow technology to run your life for the sake of "convenience," the less power you will have, until SKYNET takes over.

well, I do have a smart car. build by myself. quadcore laptop, usb relaiscards etc. No one can enter my car or follow me without been seen. I can start my car when i'm n the house etc. there's a lot more I can do. naturally speaking makes it possible to use spoken commands. Really it is KIT2. my car "sees" policecars.

But the really nice thing is that you can see nothing from the outside. My car looks dead in everything.
