I see this one tapered off during the night ... not showing the continuous trembling (echoing L.A.) like it did for most of yesterday.

1. Have we seen anything like this before in California?
2. They say a 9.0 is not possible in California right?
3. What would be required an earthquake to be larger than a 9?

Just thought I would throw that out theregrinning
 Quoting: Veresanctus

I think the 9.0 scenario is only possible on the Cascadia subduction zone in far northern CA. San Andreas can't produce that, more like in the 7-8 range. A 9 is ten times larger than an 8. So it's a huge difference.

Have you guys forgotten that USGS just discovered a subduction zone off the coast of California just last month? Yeah? No?

Could LA's Big One be even bigger than we thought? Helium leaking from massive earthquake fault under Los Angeles reveals giant rift

'The Newport-Inglewood fault appears to sit on a 30-million-year-old subduction zone, so it is surprising that it maintains a significant pathway through the crust.'

Well, forget the doom boner ... we just gave ourselves a big downer. =(

Well! Looks like the GLP effect was active today and EQ crisis adverted for tonight (for now).

Let's see where else we can turn our attentions to ...

Have we not gone through this before?
Yes, Cali will have minor easy flowing quakes.
No fore shock, pre-disaster killer surfing wave doom for the west coast.

This has been cancelled, a new show opening elsewhere.

The quake cam is out of action at the moment - there have been a few small tremors but due to a lack of ink, they're not showing up on the drum. People commenting on the page are going to get in touch with the people who run the cam, I think, to see if they'll fix it.
