Crippling Anxiety.....PLEASE HELP!
I am suffering from pretty severe anxiety and I don't know what to do to help myself.

Part of it is genetic/hereditary I think, but the other part is job induced.

I've been on vacation and go back to work in 9 days. The work I do involves lots of preparation and working from home, including most evenings and done weekends.

Of course I have to work and I'm the breadwinner-so we need me in this job.

It's just to the point that I can't sleep at night for thinking about work----what if I fail, what if I mess up, what if I don't know what to do and things don't go well, etc.

I've tried meditation apps, magnesium, melatonin, sleepy time tea, reading, positive self-talk etc.

For a while I even tried description meds, but stopped due to horrible side effects.

How can I control this anxiety enough that I can function???

Re: Crippling Anxiety.....PLEASE HELP!
Its psychological and spiritual.

Christ was my answer. He freed me from anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Reach out to him.

As for the psychological aspect of it, you have to learn to not care. Sometimes you're going to fail, sometimes you're going to mess up, sometimes you're going to say the wrong thing, sometimes things just don't go you way. IT HAPPENS. Every time you get a negative thought about your failures you have to tell yourself you don't care and make an effort to BELIEVE that. Now don't go overboard with this technique as you'll start not caring about a lot of things. It takes a ton of practice and mental fortitude, but overtime you'll notice you care less if you make a mistake, or what others think of you.

That said, not all anxiety is bad I think. Anxiety helps you get things done that need to be done, and it helps you do them to point of perfection based on your skill set.

The bad types of anxiety that cripple a person to do nothing are the problem.

Re: Crippling Anxiety.....PLEASE HELP!
I hear you Op.

I solved this issue by cutting out all stimulants and processed sugar and junk food. Caffeine is the main culprit.

Get a good half hour walk in everyday. Try to get yourself started on a low carb diet.

Also the best way to help an anxiety attack is with chamomile tea. It works as long as your body isn't loaded with junk carbs and stimulants.

Good luck. I hope you find relief.

Re: Crippling Anxiety.....PLEASE HELP!
Long calm walks in nature.

Substitute 'what if' with 'so what'.

Self - Confidence and Anxiety cannot co-exist.

No caffeine or stimulants.

Catch the thoughts at their start, the self-defeating anxiety inducing thoughts, even as they are tiny buds, and calmly look them in the face, and challenge them.

Don't try to understand why...just leap over the anxiety when it is past and keep going.

If you think you will fail, die, mess up, go there, go right into that dreaded place, feel it, accept it fully....and see that it does not matter in the end.

I would try Sam-e, if you can buy it in Canada without a prescription. In the U.s. you can buy it at Walmart as it was made non-prescription. It will mellow you out

If that does not work then I would try Phenibut. The russian invented it and all Cosmonauts that go in space are required to have it just in case they get into a very stressful situation. It calms you down and gives you a sense of well being and lets you focus on the task you need to focus on.

You are in charge of your life Fran, don't allow anything to stand in the way of your desires.

Here is the source of your power, intent. If you intend anxiety and confusion, so be it, however if you intend peace and tranquility, there you are amidst the green meadows of our mind.

if you're taking benzos, like xanex, stop taking them

try something like a magnolia bark mix, like relora and take it with lemon balm in capsules or however else you want- both have been used for thousands of years for anxiety

that's a start

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful replies and support.

I am so appreciative!

Right away, the first thing that struck me in many of your replies were the comments about caffeine/stimulants. I drink quite a bit of coffee. In fact, when I'm feeling anxious, I brew s cup as a distraction. Coffee has been a habit for me for sooooo many years that it really didn't occur to me that it could be causing or exacerbating the problem.

Second thing: sugar! I agree that this could be a yeast for off and the sugar has been feeding the yeast---great point. Thank you!

I also love the suggestion of replacing "what if" to "so what."

Thank you for all these things, GLP. You are good people!

Let go...feel through the pain and it subsides.

Feel. Through. the. Pain.

Feel through it...every single bit of it.

That's actually very profound and you are right.

I need to quit playing the victim and take charge of my feelings.

I know this, it's just so hard to do during an anxiety attack.

Yes 90 percent of the population is hooked on caffeine, one of the worst drugs I can think of. I was a heavy coffee drinker since I was 12 years old till very recently. I'm 29 and I began to notice heart issues. I smoked for awhile too. But I noticed that it was whenever I drank coffee I would feel anxious. Started getting heart palpitations. Then the anxiety attacks.

Let me warn you about caffeine. It robs you of energy. It makes you urinate all your nutrients out. All that good magnesium and vitamins can't help you if you drink it. Same with alcohol.

Quit. Just cut your doses by half for a week or two and then cut that by half again. Once you quit you will notice that you have much more energy.

The real warning. If you are like me and developed a sensitivity to Caffeine (happens to everyone as they get older), you literally cannot have it anymore. If you do you will get an anxiety attack from hell right away.

I loved coffee and I'll miss it but caffeine lethal to me. People are much better off with water for energy.

Had same symptoms, OP.

Warm relaxing bubble baths.

Hour long massage.

Dietary advice good; but in case of rising anxiety sometimes a slice of toast
(carb come down) helps but avoid sugar.

Walks.

Planning out and structuring your work in advance.

Preparing as much in advance as you can to expedite the work when it is required.

Don't overload yourself.

Enforce "time off" to rest.

Good luck.

Re: Crippling Anxiety.....PLEASE HELP!
I take care of my disabled parents full time in my home. Dad has had Alzheimer's for seven years. Right here. With me. I lost my job, stood in bread lines, declared bankruptcy. They have nothing and I have had to support them. Even cashed in my 401k. But that's what you do for people you love.

My dear, if you figure out how to alleviate well-earned anxiety, let me know. I'll probably end up in a little padded cell somewhere. 5a

just let go...if you're going to die (in your mind)

then simply let It Happen

its not hard...most people are very scared

Quit your job before it makes you suicidal. Or, at least buy an AR-15 as a hobby to blow off some steam, then show it to your boss and ask him to pose for a photo so you can order a card-board cutout figure of him.. He'll thank you for it!

Re: Crippling Anxiety.....PLEASE HELP!
Pretty stupid, most of their points and case are pretty dumb, remember a lot of it depends on where you're booked, different stations have different procedures, you don't necesarrily have to have a height measurement and they don't really make you hold up an id or serial number any more that gets logged into a computer with the mugshot anyway, the shadow was probably from a light hanging at the right angle or a flash from the camera, theres two photos, perhaps the one the media isn't showing she made the wrong face at the wrong time so they had to redo it, on the prison clothes they don't always take mugshots in the clothes you come in with, but either way pretty irrelevant why would they kill her then put her in a prison jumpsuit to then take a mugshot just seems irrelevant, and the last thing, there's usually somebody else who takes the mugshot (often times more than one person) whos job is to take mugshots I'd doubt they'd take the risk of going to jail for the rest of their life just to help a random cop out in a murder scheme, and I highly doubt that a cop coud just drag a body into a police station and get a mugshot and do all this by himself un noticed in the middle of the day? Come on, and then after your mugshot they take you to jail have some office clerk (again I'd doubt they'd get an office clerk to agree to be an accessory to murder) file out the details of your offense, and then you sign abunch of papers and you go to your cell, now on her being six feet tall and hanging herself on a five foot platform, you don't have to be in the air to hang yourself you can have your feet touching the ground and still do it, so any way the theory of the cops killing her is pretty dumbfounded and not really thinking really thinking too brightly, but to each his own

I recommend weed, careful to get a nice indica, which is heavy on the CBDs and lighter on the THCs. Works well on patients suffering PTSD too.
