I Can Smell It': Resident Told to Keep BBQ Smoke in His Own Yard?

Thank you for answering me. I got the impression he was some kind of code enforcement because the "lady" across the street complained. But....HOA's have these type of people that actually make verbal contact with you and tell you what to do? I'm not being a smart ass...I'm literally ignornant of HOA's.

My Hypothetical:

Official: I can smell your BBQ from the street.
Me: That's not from my BBQ. My BBQ doesn't smell like that.
Official: Sir, I can see the smoke coming from your BBQ towards the street.
Me: No, that's somebody else's smoke that is infiltrating my BBQ.
Official: I know it's your BBQ
Me: Does it smell like Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce?
Official: Maybe.
Me: then it's not mine. We don't use that sauce.

Yeah, you get one warning, and then, they start fining you. You can fight the fine, but it's usually far less than fighting it would be. They can garnish your wages, but most will place a lien on the house, and wait to collect until you sell it.

Awful people, these HOA enforcers. Usually, people with a serious power trip and way too much time on their hands.

They're not worried about the smoke, but the crowd of that gathers during the BBQ's and being turbo obnoxiously loud and careless.

I do complain all the time : smoke, loud music, parking cars front my house, psychological stress, etc !!

I tell my neighbor , you have 2 choices: to invite me the barbecue or I will call the police !!

They invite me every time , it always works . They know the protocol !!

there's more to this story than we hear OR know. maybe he's had thugs rollin through with music blastin when havin parties too. maybe not...but there's something more to this than we're haearin. neighborhood squabbles are nothin new and "some" will look for any avenue to fuck with neighbors they don't like...regardless of color.

So - we might not know the whole story. One complaint shows that he has multiple grills running. If he has commercial grilling equipment in his backyard and his yard...yea it is going to create more smoke than the usual backyard bbq grill. I wonder how often he grills, if it goes right into the living room of a house or onto their laundry line or something...makes you wonder.

The basic rule of law is thst you keep your shit off the neighbors property, and thst includes sounds and smells. he has a right to sit outdoors on his own land and NOT smell your bbq or cigarettes or hear your music. Thats the whole purpose of owniing his own land and not living with you, YOU have the duty to contain your smoke and clamor to avoid violating your neighbors rights to the peaceful enjoyment of his property.

These guys were peobably fighting about something else though.

I do NOT tolerate any bullshit and I guess that scares them. I confront shit head on and do it quickly. That's all I can say really.

For example:

I ripped the neighbor's mailbox out of my front yard after repeatedly asking them to either turn off the headlights or at least dim them while driving up to check their mail, as is was shining directly in my livingroom window. The compiled twice and then it was back to the same shit, so beings it was my property the boxes were on, I ripped it out of the ground and set it in their driveway. No more easy access to the box at my inconvenience.

A win win really.

Yep, sounds like my asshole neighbor he actually called the police once because my kids were playing in the pool and according to him their laughing was irritating to him. Hubby was working on the car a few weeks ago and he called the police and said my husband was making to much noise. The man is a pain in the a$$.

That white guy is the cities or counties Code Enforcement Officer.
