I would suggest starting with something simpler like Python or even BASH shell scripting just to get the basic concepts of programming down. Python is fun to learn and is a very powerful programming language. There are a ton of jobs out there as well for Python developers as well. Install any modern flavor of linux and you will have Python readily available to you without having to install anything, however I would recommend upgrading to a newer version since there has been a lot of changes in the more recent versions. Also look at Udemy for training courses in check out it-ebooks.com to find PDFs to get started Good luck! Last Edited by Rick_Grimes on 07/29/2015 10:05 AM |

"The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title." Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. - H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women |

I seen my friend install Ubuntu ages ago and he was having issues and I wouldn't want any troubles quite yet. This was a while ago though. Any stable versions you recommend that are easy to install with minimum issues. |

I am suggesting this because there is a terrific free course on the net that teaches you JS and helps you get a job after you complete the whole thing .. Just be warned the whole course together with the required practice is about 800h. The community is awesome and really helpful :) [link to www.freecodecamp.com] |

From there you can install linux within your Virtualbox VM There are ton of tutorials online that will walk you through, but for a beginner I would strongly suggest starting with Python or Linux shell scripting. |

I'm also interested in anonymity and security and encryption . also need to learn pgp . Quoting: Talkinghands LinuX comes with GPG installed already. It's essentially an open source version of PGP. Most linux distributions come with OpenSSL and OpenSSH installed as well if you are interested in learning more about security and encryption. |
