Purposely haven't watched any video or read any stories on this. Know only what I've hear on the radio news and from regular people.

Palmer is not a hunter, he's a coward. He baited the lion out of a sanctuary for protected animals. They put a spotlight on Cecil the lion, blinded him and Palmer shot his pathetic load from a seat in a truck. Then he did the worse thing as a hunter, he didn't kill his target but let Cecil roam 40 hours injured. Then he tried to hide the crime when he attempted to remove the tracking collar. And let's not forget to mention the African Lion is a hair away from being declared endangered. There are only a little over 30,000 left on the planet, a decline of 60% in the last two decades. The baiter, not hunter, no way a hunter, you defend is an impotent, cowardly piece of dung. His "trophies" are a joke.

He has a criminal record for a prior illegal kill and didn't learn from it. He's not only scum but stupid.

They're pretending to be "outraged" because for a brief moment, it allows them to feel something through the din of their boring-as-fuck lives spent cogging cogs all day at their slave job, after which they go home to eat, shit, fuck, check Facebook, and go to bed.

Cecil is a big story in America for the same reason the Ice Bucket Challenge was a big story... Americans have been developmentally lobotimized by their mundane lives in a dystopian society, and the only way they can stimulate their baseline human emotional response is to bounce chaotically from one outlet to another.

So I did a little more research. The dentist actually got screwed by the guys who were supposed to be in charge of the hunt. Also turns out Cecil was outside the preserve and was technically fair game. The guy made several statements and was completely polite and cooperative - completely contrary to the monster you're imagining. What happened essentially is the equivalent of Mimbutu coming to America to hunt a deer, the tour guide who procures hunting licenses screwed him and guided him to whack a deer on a farm, off season. To further his bad luck, that deer happened to be Bambi's mother whom the whole world had anthropomorphized into sainthood.

For this the Internet is going to destroy his life, his business, likely his family and the lives of the nurses and assistants that will be out of work in a shit economy forever. I find what he did distasteful and could never agree with or promote it, but it's not worth taking his life and the lives of those around him. The primary legal issue here is a technicality enforced by corrupt locals. It's like that scene in Maverick where he extorts the Russian business man by allowing him to fake shoot an Indian and then pretending to be an official and extorting him later.

If someone is going to go hunting, then the person better make sure everything they are doing is legal. And to not just depend on guides. Know what you are doing. Ignorance is not an excuse. Give me a break with the outrage assholes. First of all, the only reason Cecil was popular is because Columbia University had a GPS collar on him and he was easy to find. Drive the tourists around in circles - or drive them directly to the dot on the map? He was a real money maker now that they could crank out 7 tours a day instead of 3 and everybody came back happy instead of disappointed they didn't see anything. This also made Cecil an easy target for photographers. Easy to find during business hours, for all the privacy he had, Cecil might as well have been in a zoo.

Now the Internet wants a hunter dead. Really? Big game hunters operate like a conservationist who plants new trees when they cut them down. He pays $55,000 to hunt one, the rest of the pride gets to keep living on the plot of land he and other hunters like him are paying to protect and maintain. Why the outrage? People shoot adorable deer in the U.S. all day, every day. We eat cows (veal!) and chickens and fish - all things kept as pets. What's happened here is the idiocracy has become so removed from the natural order we've forgotten how it works. Cecil beat the odds and lived a long life at 13, Cecil had many offspring, Cecil killed a LOT of animals far cuter and good natured than he was. The average lifespan of a male lion is 14 years and this dentist basically shot the George Burns of lions.

This dentist is going on have the last 50 years of his human life ruined because morons are anthropomorphizing a geriatric cat. They're behaving like Cecil and his ilk are sweet, gentle giants. Lions also kill other lions to take control of the pride. This majestic Cecil and his pride are some of the most violent, dangerous killers on the planet. Right now another lion in his group is killing Cecil's kids so that HE can be the alpha. This dentist is the monster? I don't think so. Had Cecil lived, normally what would happen at this point is a younger, stronger male would fight Cecil for supremacy due to his age - and then when he inevitably lost Cecil'd be forced walk off into the desert to die alone in shame while the new guy fucks his wife. If we're anthropomorphizing, the dentist actually did Cecil a HUGELY humane favor.

I'm an animal lover. I think what the dentist did is a dick move and unless Cecil was going through my trash cans or getting ready to eat me, there's no way I could pull the trigger. However, unlike the morons who swim with sharks, commune with bears, run with Wolves or whip lions in Vegas wearing sequins who all eventually get eaten, I'm not making the mistake of pretending nature's killing machines have a gentile spirit and love humans. Hell, even my dog would eat me if I died in the kitchen and he was hungry. They're animals. Cecil lived a good life, people liked him and he went out on top. We should all be so lucky.
