Witnesses say three people performed a possible exorcism at a public park in Odessa on Thursday morning One woman says it was 'very bizarre' and that it 'got a little too crazy' Police were called to the scene, but didn't arrest anyone The Texas Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that public exorcisms are legal.
Horrified witnesses reported coming across an exorcism taking place in front of a duck pond at a popular park on Thursday morning In what could have been a scene from a horror movie - but turned out to be real - at least two people were witnessed performing the bizarre ritual while holding a woman to the ground in the park in Odessa, Texas. Sherri Jackson says she typically begins her day by reading the Bible and praying at Memorial Gardens Park. 'No Bible was read, no prayer, because it got a little too crazy,' Jackson said according to KMOV
Jackson happened to stumble upon the 'exorcism'. 'She was on the ground and they were standing over her with hands on her and screaming 'Satan, I demand that you depart,' and it went on and on. It was very bizarre,' Jackson explained. 'They [started] getting louder and louder.'
Police were called to the scene but did not take any action because performing an exorcism in a public place is not illegal. The Texas Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that the right to participate in an exorcism is a religious freedom and officials can not interfere unless the subject of the exorcism is being abused. Police say no one was injured. |
