People like the founding fathers of America - they were a special breed brought together by circumstance, and we can't relive their struggle as our world is different from theirs. In their day, they could pack up and leave their countries and settle in America - using up the resources that were plenty. Now there is no place to run to. And people are as much a social creature today as back then, and we only kid ourselves if we believe we can turn them around on their leaders in revolt. People are good natured, and don't want to upset the order of society if they can avoid it. They can't be compelled by ideals; they must be directed by laws even if they are tyranical. To belong is far more valuable than principles and independence. So, that's why people don't revolt. They're comfortable and well fed as well. |
