A Republican Suggestion
A Republican Suggestion
A friend just made what I thought was a brilliant suggestion. With such a talented Republican presidential candidate field, it is hard to make choices. Before we begin to see them destroy one another and Democrats vow a "pox on all their houses," all presidential hopefuls should agree to put country first, go out on a yacht, duke it out in a genteel manner allocating each candidate a relevant position, and then run as a Republican slate. That way we get them all!

As we watched the New Hampshire Republican speed-dating political forum on CSPAN last night, my friend and I assigned our choice of position for each of 17 announced candidates.

Our suggestions and reasoning behind each choice are as follows:
President Carly Fioni
She has extensive executive experience, excellent speaking skills, seems to be well organized and possesses a warm and cheerful personality. She is also a woman (not that being a woman is a real asset, but many low information citizens seem to value demographics above talent.)

Vice President Jeb Bush
He seemed to be one of the weakest and awkward candidates and we think vice presidents overall do not seem to do very much. This might appease the establishment class and as VP, he might do less harm to other departments' success.

Chief of Staff Rand Paul
As gatekeeper and agenda setter, he would be a solid voice for Libertarians and proponents of small government. That way government would be less likely to fall back into overreach.

Secretary of State Bobby Jindal
He comes across as one with great ideas, a man of the world, eloquent speaker and seems to have a broad global overview.

Attorney General Marco Rubio
This was a hard choice between him and Ted Cruz. We need a solid constitutionalist and it is a sad state of affairs when the best viable candidates are second generation Cubans. We need to return to a nation of law, not lobbyist pressure.

Secretary of Defense Ted Cruz
Disastrous times are coming and we need a man who speaks the truth and is fearless to stand up for "We the People," defending us against our enemies, foreign and domestic. Ted has proven his backbone and will to fight and carry on for the people, even when it is hard. It will take many battles to rebuilt the military and he is the just the man to do it.

Secretary of Commerce Donald Trump
He was not there last night, but is a natural to nurture business and trade.

Secretary of the Treasury John Kasich
Kasich has a track record of balancing budgets and a good understanding of finance. Perhaps he could abolish the IRS and establish a flat tax code with no exemptions.

Secretary of Homeland Security Rick Perry
Perry claims to know how to secure the border, so let's give him a chance to do so. A second choice for Perry would be Secretary of Energy.

Secretary of the Interior Scott Walker
We need wisdom, not emotional rhetoric to rein in the EPA, sensibly define wetlands, productively use federal lands and protect out heritage. Scott is not afraid to take on sacred cows.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Ben Carson
A natural fit to repeal Obamacare and create an affordable and workable healthcare system.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development George Pataki
As former governor of a populous state with many large urban areas, he understands how things should work

Department of Education Chris Christi
He took on the teachers' union and would be a good guy to manage abolishing this department in its entirety.

Secretary of Labor Rick Santorum
He talks a good game for the little guy.

Department of Agriculture Secretary Lindsey Graham
Crops need a lot of hot air to grow and he probably could do less harm here than in another position.

Secretary of Transportation Jim Gilmore
Not there last night and we do not know much about him but the DC/Virginia metro area has a lot of road hubs and other transportation facilities and he was the Governor of Virginia.

Department of Energy Mike Huckabee
Need to put him somewhere and this is all that is left. I might be tempted to suggest a new department, that of Secretary of Public Morals as gatekeeper for what functions belong to government or which are best left to the private or state sector.
