Colorado River supply about 7 western states with water: Quoting: WinterStone [link to www.coloradoriverbasin.org] This is NOT the Colorado River. It's a river in the state of Colorado. Big difference. The Animas and San Juan are tributaries of the Colorado river. Just sayin' |

However they fuck up and - automatically it is nothing to worry about and not harmful, only minor skin irritation. Guess the harmfulness only depends on whose hand is on the flow value. |

Quoting: R&y :) You nailed it. Also, whatever entity should have been responsible for cleaning that poison out gets off clean, looking better than the ePA itself. |

But downstream water agencies were warned to avoid Animas water until the plume passes, said David Ostrander, director of EPA's emergency response program in Denver. Officials weren't sure how long it would take the plume to dissipate, Ostrander said. The acidic sludge is made of heavy metal and soil, which could irritate the skin, he said. The EPA was testing the plume to see which metals were released. Previous contamination from the mine sent iron, aluminum, cadmium, zinc and copper into the water, said Peter Butler, co-coordinator of the Animas River Stakeholders Group." If the EPA was truly worried about us, they'd forced that mining company who stored that water in that area to treat the water till the point of "drinking water" quality. The EPA is here to kill all the stupid people. So please do NOT get in the bright orange water. Instead just use it for a toilet since that's all anyone can do anymore. I really hope this critical issue is rectified sooner than later. Good luck to all affected and soon-to-be affected! I think that was the purpose of the mining to storing the water. They have to clean it Yes... speaking of which. Just how long had that mining waste water been stored in that rocky pocket anyways? A year or two? They already pumping stuff cleaning water. How big was this retaining wall any pics yet? Seems like a lot of contaminated water to me. Was this start of job and big screw up? Or was this that the water level within the mines is pushing more flow out the mine? If it is the latter, why would this be occurring? Could come magma chamber recede fills with water and surges back displacing more fluid. Something just does not ring right to me. |

They designed it that way. All the tribs feed the Colorado, which in turn, dumps into what? C'mon now, Lake Powell, then downstream, What? Lake Mead you say? Oh, don't forget that nasty trib called "Dirty Devil". See what they did there? Oh, by the way, how low will the lakes get when the flow is stopped, or better yet, they say you can't use the water because it's now contaminated. What could possibly go wrong with that senerio? I would be willing to bet that they were trying to recycle the waste water to extract gold from the water. It would be too expensive for a commercial company but the EPA can waste any amount of tax payer dollars and then whoever needed the gold, say JPMC gets whatever they extracted. |

Animas River is a 126-mile-long (203 km)[1] river in the western United States, a tributary of the San Juan River, part of the Colorado River System. The river's free-flowing status will soon end as the Animas-La Plata Water Project nears completion. The project will pump water over a low pass to fill a reservoir, Lake Nighthorse, in Ridges Basin to satisfy Southern Ute tribal water rights claims associated with the Colorado Ute Settlement Act amendments of 2000. -Everything's more awesome when you lean into it. |
