You're much better off with a 44 magnum, but a really loud airhorne might be able to stop a charge. Most bears don't like really loud noises. |

Only a braindead liberal hippy would carry a bear spray.. I rather carry a fucking gun, which is 100 times more effective than a piece of shit spray. |

They don't bother you on your shopping trips to the mall. Ironically enough, a bear is roaming around in my neighborhood and city. I live in N. Indiana, and a wild bear and cub came down from N. Michigan. It's been on the prowl all summer, nobody can catch them. It hasn't hurt anyone yet, but has caused damage, especially to the bee farms around here. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 59387950 United States 08/09/2015 01:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I will never understand why anybody goes into the woods without at least a side arm. I live the woods, we have black bears often, bobcats, coyotes, fox, and its a populated area. I often hike a familiar trail, and people prance around in running shorts, hippies and hipsters hike around with nordic walking sticks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69913235 I get the worst stares sometimes when they see a .45 on my hip. I have had to warn a few hikers about fresh bear tracks and droppings. They look at me like I am fucking retarded. Even had to break it down to some random hippy type that he was nothing but food in natures eyes either by animal or man. He actually understood, I pleaded with him to understand the necessity. I swear to god this society is swollen to the hilt with dangerous nonchalant action. You go into the jungle, 1. never get out of the boat, and 2. if you do get out of the boat you better be prepared to go all the way. Dude, fuck them. Let those liberal hippies get eaten up by these wild animals. We dont need these type of people on this planet. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69629023 United States 08/09/2015 01:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The news report in the Canadian Paper is here. From the actual report itself, ” Of all persons carrying sprays, 98% were uninjured by bears in close-range encounters. “ The study looked at incidents involving brown or grizzly bears, black bears and even 2 polar bear incidents. What’s also important is that in each incident where the person/s using bear spray suffered some injury, those injuries were relatively minor (i.e., no hospitalization). You're much better off with a 44 magnum, but a really loud airhorne might be able to stop a charge. Most bears don't like really loud noises. You are not correct on the pepper spray. Please list the instances where it hasn't been effective versus the times it has. In the meantime try this: "While many gun proponents remain adamant that firearms offer better protection against a charging bear than pepper spray, a growing body of scientific research suggests otherwise" "In March 2012, the Journal of Wildlife Management published Tom Smith and Stephen Herrero’s “Efficacy of Firearms for Bear Deterrence in Alaska.” The paper’s prosaic title didn’t prevent it from grabbing headlines around the country. For the first time, bear researchers had provided compelling statistical evidence that firearms were less effective in protecting individuals against bear attacks than many folks previously believed, including the researchers themselves. Among their conclusions were 1) that “firearm bearers suffered the same injury rates in close encounters with bears whether they used their firearms or not,” and 2) that “bear spray [has] a better success rate under a variety of situations ... than firearms.”" |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65903203 it's so dumb they tell people not to feed the bears, then poison the earth with such loads of insecticides, occupy all the land with their crops, genetically engineer the crops to poison the insects. What are animals supposed to eat? insects are the bedrock of the animal food chain. Bears fatten up on insects for the winter. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69983890 United States 08/09/2015 01:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | why can't they create fire lines in the forrests, run water pipes through fire lines so they can flood the area. How could this be more expensive than the money they pay an army of firefighters, all those planes and helicopters dropping fire retardant? |

Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved. |
