Well, the article is about the car - so instead of being a Google Car it'll be an Alphabet Car ran by Google - Yet, I was saying - I could imagine the Android operating system getting major overhaul by Google.

The article says they are splitting up its different department divisions, like Driverless cars and others, and putting them under a different name, they say it's to make sure all the divisions get their full share of attention.

Google will still be google in search engines, what they are doing is distancing the Google name from other divisions so when they get sued Google itself will be able to stay away from prosecution... Remember all the driverless car wrecks???

OP lacks reading comprehension.

Google is not changing its name. It's created a separate company that will handle all of Google's current subsidiaries, so that the search engine (Google) can focus on more of it's own stuff. And the creative arms of the company, like the self-driving car, will be handled elsewhere under the Alphabet name.
