My 13 year old dog died today... our family is crushed.

I had to put down not a dog but my cat today due to health reasons. Horrible pain it is because she trusted me in me in her innocence to take care of her and I wonder if my decision was best. My thoughts are with you op.

There is a currant that runs through both worlds. One day your energy will meet your dogs. Either in a sign or when you cross over.

Focus on the amazing memories and connections you shared. Love your dog, it's energy/essence will always be a part of you.

I often wonder about these situations in life, like you said, poof they are gone. It messes us up whether human or beloved pet.

I'm sorry for the OP. But thirteen is a good long life for a dog.

And it's a... dog.

I had a cat for eighteen years. It was like a dog. All the neighbors knew and loved him. He would follow our kids around the neighborhood to their friend's houses. He was awesome. We loved him. He was a great cat.

But... he was still a cat.

I'm so sorry brother - deep, deep grief - time helps a lot...don't try to get over it 'cause I don't think one should! Love like that should always be honored! Truly take solace that you'll see your dog again! Animals will be with us during the 1,000 year reign, but more so, our God Loves us and delights in blessing us! Our God knows how much our animal friends mean to us and I believe it is in line with His Character to bless us with such a reunion - He delights in our joy...can you imagine His expression when He shows up with your dog?

All this horror and suffer will soon be at an end!

Almost two years ago my daughter-and-her-family's 13-year-old cat got hit by a car and died. He, as opposed to his sister, was so friendly, he just loved everybody. I cried for a day and a half, and he wasn't even my cat. I still miss that guy, he was so friendly and lovable.

It really is such a loss when you lose a pet you've had for so long. :( Our family dog lived until he was almost 17. I'll never forget that day.

Look at the bright side: you can still enjoy its lingering fleas, dander, fecal matter particles about your house and piles of shit in your yard!

Some of you are just such sad, pathetic excuses for human beings.

I'm so sorry for you and your family. I have lost many dogs throughout the years. It's never easy. They are one of the family. In the last few years I lost one that was 13 and the other two were almost 15. It just crushes you..well it does me. But I will always get another (I am down from four to two dogs). They are like Lays potato chips...you can't have just one! When you and your family are ready get you another baby from a pound/shelter near you. They are the best and you are saving a life of a wonderful animal! And they know you saved them!

uh, yep... dog is not going to lie to you, not going to steal (much) from you, not going to cheat on you... is going to love you even if you have bad breath and are missing a finger.

And our dog loved us and we love her still... poor girl. Now I am crying again.
