The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |
Mother Knows Best User ID: 63022613 United States 08/14/2015 03:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It was only a matter of time. Beef has gotten prohibitively expensive here in Iowa. A pound of FATTY hamburger is $5.49. Any other cuts range upwards of $20 per pound. It is now cheaper for me to buy lamb imported from New Zealand than it is to buy beef raised in Iowa. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63729604 ...and shit is only going to get worse. This is the after affects of so many cattle having to be sold off during the drought in Oklahoma and Texas. It will take time to build those herds back. We have the bird flu causing havoc with poultry too. And now we have the drought in California and the mine leakage in Colorado causing havoc. Our food supply chain is very fragile. People need to grow as much of their own food as possible. |

Especially for growing hay to feed the cattle.. without that, you have to truck it in, making it too expensive to operate long. Plus the cows need water to drink. So everyone reduces the herd to survive. |

They run tight and at full capacity at plants or they shut them down. They shut down the least efficient plants. They're history with chickens is full of this kind of thing. Nothing wrong with it. |

Doom-browser User ID: 70005334 United States 08/14/2015 04:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Tyson Shuts Iowa Beef Plant Because There's Not Enough Cattle Quoting: I Love Panda Bears "Tyson said that 400 workers will lose their jobs at the plant in Denison, a city of about 8,000. But they're being encouraged to relocate to Tyson jobs elsewhere, particularly its beef plant in Lincoln, Nebraska, nearly 300 miles away. "Tyson (TSN) will keep a crew of 20 workers at the Denison plant who will process non-beef byproducts from other Tyson locations. "The company said it's "reducing beef production due to a continued lack of available cattle." "Workers who lost their jobs will get 60 days pay, even if they're not on the job." Spoke to the store manager about it (I'm in there like 4 times a week) and he said they're cutting all meat prices a lot to stay competitive with the 13 other grocery stores within the 3 mile radius. So everyone reduces the herd to survive. Colorado has decided that new housing units need water, but farmers do not. The farmers that need water to grow food are hurting, because they are low priority water users. New neighborhoods are popping up everywhere, and they get first shot at the water. This will end up with a lot of houses out on the prairie, full of corpses that starved for lack of food. Colorado is run by some of the stupidest socialist in the world. I think Californication sent their stupidest tree huggers to "save" Colorado. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. "America is at that awkward stage.
