Religious people, China people, business people: please explain this MESSED UP thing that happened.

I am in Tokyo right now at the end of a very long, ugly, stressful three days. I represent an American company involved in a four-way deal with a Chinese company, a South Korean company, and a Japanese company. Without giving away many details to avoid privacy issues, I will outline the situation as follows:

Last week our team got a call from the Japanese (our partner company in the transaction) and they were hopping mad. They wanted us to send somebody over for emergency four-way talks in Tokyo. I got this lovely pain-filled mission dumped in my lap. Actually they ended up being more like three-way talks, because the Japanese side got so furious that it walked out in the middle of discussions.

The cliff notes version: The Chinese company had leased certain propriatry technology and precision machinery jointly owned by the Japanese and US side. They were supposed to return the machinery and pay a large LARGE sum for it and the associated tech by the begginning of August, which they have NOT done. Finally last week they just announced they weren't going to pay or return the stuff, period point blank. It's a major contractual breach, but their attitude was essentially "fuck you. Make us."

It was a useless, bitter meaning that got ugly fast and stayed that way. Despite several days of negotiations, nobody has or will budge. Yeaterday we threw in the towel.

On my way out the door, somebody from the Chinese company was was walking me to the lobby. This individual is not Chinese. In fact it's difficult to guess his nationality but if I had to, I woild say somewhere from Eastern Europe, perhaps. I will not give out names for privacy reasons but his name suggests this is possible. At any rate, he speaks English quite well. As I was leaving he gave me this EVIL smirk that literally made me ahudder a little. It was the face of a man who you could imagine torturing hamsters slowly in his free time or something similar. The vibes coming off this guy were nauseating.

He put his hand on my shoulder, leaned in a little, and said, "Better get right with Baphomet."
I wasn't sure what he had said, so I replied, "Excuse me?"
He just smiled again and said, "There is still time. Look to the statue in Detroit." Then he dropped this hideous, repulsively slow wink and walked away.

I did some Internet searches of "Baphomet" and "Detroit" and "Statue" and apparently it's some satanic shit. Please help me understand this; I'm deeply freaked out.
