Remember! Any capital controls imposed these times is actually the passing from cash to cashless societies where everything is done with credit/debit cards. I can say that from first hand since here it is easier to pay with a card than waiting in lines to withdraw small amounts of money. They are also thinking of banning all cash transactions above 30€ and thus make people use credit/debit cars above that limit. The main reason that they are saying that they do that is because it helps against tax evasion, but actually criminals will always find ways to do their business (see Bitcoin and other crypto-currency). The only reason is that they want to control YOUR money with a few keystrokes and thus make you susceptible to any kind of extortions they'll think in the future.

Alas Babylon is a great book! It was required reading in high school English.
