Useless Cookie Eater User ID: 29696048 United States 08/24/2015 06:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My house has a over hang roof covering front steps and door. I don't get much traffic in and out of my house. Quoting: Azila_Again Saturday my brother, wife and their grand kids come for the weekend. I ask brother to change light bulb above my door. Comes in with a big " hell no". He takes me out and shows me a very active hornets nest above the light. The size of a damn basket ball! This morning I get in touch with pest control. Say they'll be at my house at 4pm today. The guy acts shocked. Tells me these are bald face hornets, very aggressive and dangerous. Tells me when disturbed by noise or movement they will attack anything close. Animals, children, adults..etc...explains we've been lucky with it so close to my door. Yea, then tells me they usually attack the face/head area and Can sting multiple times. So 4pm he is in full body suit, ladder, two spray cans and a pole. Spray knocks them dead in a second. Some fly off, but not many. It is now 6:30 and I probably have 200 bees swarming my front door looking for their nest. When will they leave? Will that leave? Wtf...this is worse than when the hive was up. Anybody with any knowledge on this? That is why you always get them at night....you get all of them. |

Azila_Again (OP) User ID: 69091738 United States 08/24/2015 06:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm freaking out a bit here. Will they only attack to protect the hive? If hive is gone and these remains hornets are angry will they attack a random person walking sidewalk or only protect a hive/space that no longer exists? These seem pretty bad ass and kids play all around my house. If they say it's true, it probably isn't. |

Quoting: Azila_Again These seem pretty bad ass and kids play all around my house. They are confused and looking for home. maybe they will settle down at night and then you can get them. So get your flash light ready. Something as simple as soapy water will suffocate them. also get that hornet killer stuff that sprays 22 feet |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 60555502 United States 08/24/2015 06:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds like he should have waited till later in the evening to spray the nest. They all go back to nest before dark so you wait till night to spray to get them all. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19043678 Close to dusk here and they are EVERYWHERE Put a sign up,' DANGER, STAY AWAY HORNETS!!!! |

Azila_Again (OP) User ID: 69091738 United States 08/24/2015 07:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Bald-faced hornets are no joke, they're aggressive as hell and very sensitive to sound. Quoting: Fret Wiz I had a similar nest one year, a buddy and I torched them at 2 am one night. You should be good, though, they won't hang around too long once the nest is toast. Oh that's so good to hear. Thank you everyone. Night seems close to falling pluse a storm is rolling in now. I just hope they're gone by morning. The guy told me they're no joke. He said the swarm was capable of chasing their target a quarter of a mile with each hornet capable of stinging many times. Also said something in their venom usually causes a much more severe reaction than something like a honey bee. If they say it's true, it probably isn't. |

Quoting: mkarenh13 Hornets are assholes. All of them, but these are bigger ones than most. I'm finding that out. If they are here in the morning I'm not even leaving for work. Pest control will still have to come out. If they say it's true, it probably isn't. |

Wtf...this is worse than when the hive was up. Anybody with any knowledge on this? Bees or do you mean hornets? Bald face hornets They are not aggressive unless their hive is intruded or if there is serious noise pollution. This pest control expert would have told you anything to make a quick buck. For a nest to be the size of a basket ball they must have been there for quite some time without any trouble. Hornets will cohabit with any creature as long as their nest is left alone and providing people can accept that even though they can be dangerous, if they are treated well they are harmless. That pest control has done more harm then good. They will tire from repeatedly trying to find their nest and will be confused now so they need some time to come to terms with what has happened which shouldn't be too long for a hornet. Don't kill them, they will go when they see their home is no longer there. |
