No one gives a shit about Katrina except those who want to grandstand and make a political scene out of it ten years on.

Ten years on there are STILL people with homes in ruin and families separated or destroyed. There are STILL entire neighborhoods wiped out and bulldozed over to put new medical facilities and a 400 million dollar prison complex. Ten years on there is still nothing less corrupt about this God forsaken place than before the deluge tried to clean up shop a decade ago.

I live here. I am not FROM here, but I came here with the Army during Katrina, you know, when we "weren't confiscating guns" and even in her darkest hour I fell in love with this city. The politics are shit, the people, for the most part, are fucked, but there is still something about this place...I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, maybe moving a little further west, but my heart is in New Orleans.

And just to clarify: me and my soldiers never took anyones guns. Even in my most koolaid induced stupor I still recognized and vigilantly defended the Constitution. But it was happening, mostly by the local PD who killed more people than the storm did, I would wager.
