It is difficult to improve oneself, and sometimes you find the results are not equal to the efforts you have made. But are you really using the methods I give you? There are many, but today I will just remind you of one. Talk to heaven, and say, ‘Now I understand; there is nothing I can do about my lower nature. It is stubborn, tough; I’ll never manage to change it. Yes, after all those wasted years, at last, heavenly spirits, I understand that I will get nowhere with it; it is not very bright; it is blind and malevolent. So, send me the purest, most perfect entities to take its place. Let these dwell in me, guide me, teach me and take over my whole life, so that I may succeed in realizing your plans, even in spite of myself.’ This is one of the best prayers in the world, and if you say it sincerely every day you cannot fail to experience good results.

Prayer is not simply the act of addressing some entity or another in order to ask for health, success or a fine marriage. When we pray, we reconnect with the supreme Being, the Creator of heaven and earth. If you learn how to relate to this Being, which is eternity and infinity, you attract elements from the higher worlds, and then it will not just be a few physical, material conditions of your life that change but your deepest Self. True prayer is contact with the sublime regions. Succeed in capturing just one element from these regions, and suddenly everything is different: you feel this element vibrating within you, purifying you, enlightening you, bringing back harmony to your whole being. And this beneficial state acts upon all those around you: they are influenced, because from you they receive something of this precious element.

To pray does not mean to lodge complaints with the Lord so that he will satisfy our desires and make life easier for us. True prayer is a respiration of the soul which spreads its wings in heavenly regions. This respiration acts not only on our psychic and spiritual bodies, but on our physical body. When we know why we are praying and do so sincerely and fervently, we activate a succession of processes in our organism which alters even the movement of electrons in the very substance of our body. You must work to understand the nature of man’s capacity to strive towards a Being or a world that surpasses him, and on contact with which he is regenerated.

You complain that your prayers are not answered. Well, that is where you are wrong. If your prayer is sincere, fervent, and disinterested it is answered, but it is answered gradually. What you are asking for cannot be realized in a day, but you have set in motion a continuing and developing process leading to growth and expansion. The very moment you pray, your wish begins to be realized, but time is needed before it is granted in full. You plant a seed: for that seed to become a tree, it takes time, but already your wish is being fulfilled because the seed is already sprouting. If you are praying for the kingdom of God and His justice you cannot make it happen within a day; that is not possible. It is a gigantic tree which cannot reach full growth all at once. But since the seed has been sown, the tree has already begun to grow.

When you go to a shop to make purchases, you always have to give something in exchange for what you are requesting. This is called payment. If you don’t want to pay, you won’t be given anything. It is the same on the spiritual plane. But there, the payment is of a different kind. The heavenly entities say, ‘Give us your heart, and we will give you what you request.’ But you reply, ‘I can’t, my heart is taken, I have already given it to others. I have a wife, children, a mistress (or a lover), habits I can’t give up, I have no more heart to give.’ That is why your prayers are not answered. You always think you will be able to obtain heaven’s help, its peace and its light, without giving anything in return. That’s impossible; to obtain heaven’s blessings, you have to give it at least part of your conscious attention, part of your love, of your time and of your daily efforts.

In the ‘restaurant’ of the soul and spirit, it is not like on the physical plane, where you have to eat each day or else become hungry and weak. The food you receive in the sublime regions of the soul and spirit can nourish you for days on end. The divine world contains elements that are so rich, so full of light, that if you can taste them even once, you will know what it is to live in eternity."
