M3.2 - 68km ESE of Lakeview, Oregon

The hot springs were discovered in 1832 by trappers from the Hudson's Bay Company, who noted in their journal that the water was unbearably hot.[1] They are a small group of alkaline thermal springs in Lake County's Goose Lake Valley, 2 miles (3 km) north of Lakeview.[2] The temperature of the various springs ranges from 185 to 210 °F (85 to 99 °C).[3] The spring water is alkaline with a high concentration of sulfate and other minerals. This environment supports large bacterial mats in the natural channels that drain the springs.[4] As a result, the bacterial mat communities at the hot springs have been studied and analyzed by microbiologists from around the world.[5]

2010

It shot 200-degree water 40 feet into the air every 30 seconds to two minutes. Generations of visitors to Hunter's Hot Springs Resort have snapped pictures of the geyser or soaked in the hot pools nearby.

In recent decades, the geyser disappeared in summer, coinciding with increased groundwater pumping from nearby wells for irrigating hay fields. But after irrigation season ended in fall, the geyser always returned.

But last fall it didn't.

Very interesting, GFG!

That these hot springs are getting BEYOND the safe
temperatures for human bathing--and, like in Oregon,
seem to be very close to quakes...seems to be getting
more and more attention in the news now.

Very interesting thread, and something that everyone
should know about--especially those links about the
Idaho Hot Springs Accident.
cheers

Just a regular old earthquake on a fault. Volcanic quakes are harmonic and have a very different signature.
