Re: Breaking: Mount McKinley "officially" renamed Denali
Denali has been the name of that mountain for a long time.

The locals all call it that, the natives call it that, it's in the middle of "Denali" national park...

That's the mountain's name.

McKinley never even went to Alaska.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28751178

!!THIS!!!

I rarely hear anyone call it McKinley.

Anyone upset at this name change knows nothing of famous peaks, mountaineering, or Alaska.

But whatever, go to pieces.

Re: Breaking: Mount McKinley "officially" renamed Denali
The native Indians lost their lands, and their mountains and other landmarks were renamed. Now it is happening to the European founding stock of this country, we are losing our history and our culture to the Cultural Marxists.

Make no mistake, Obama is a deeply disturbed and conflicted mulatto who HATES white America, and that's why he has renamed the mountain.

The Alaskans call it Denali. Are you going to disrespect the state's right to call it that and the federal gov to respect what the people of Alaska wanted? Any alpinist calls it Denali anyway.
 Quoting: apiratewithadd

The state should have the right to name it whatever they want, but unfortunately the land it lies on is federally owned and operated.

The real thing that pisses me off is that Obama has made this decision himself with no legal precedent or standing. He has no right to rename national monuments. If he gets away with this...which admittedly is in no way offensive, and from Alaskans weighing in here is actually welcome...it means he can name anything whatever the hell he wants to.

What if he decided to name it Odinga peak
 Quoting: FreedomFries

Lets just ignore the states rights then that this site preaches constantly and wants the feds to step off from. Make up your damn mind and be glad that the peak is properly named finally as chosen by the conservative peoples of Alaska. You're ignoring all the Alaskan voices in the thread

Alaska had wanted to change the name since the 70s. Trying to make this about partisan politics is just insane and childish.

It would have been changed decades ago except for a few idiots in Ohio opposing a change in another state.

I'd also wish everyone would quit getting distracted by insignificant BS issues. We have real issues to worry about.

Returning a Mountain to it's original name? Doesn't even freaking register. Worry about the BIG issues not this petty distraction crap!

Re: Breaking: Mount McKinley "officially" renamed Denali
I'm guessing the official renaming has been accomplished through executive order.

The office of the president has way, way too much power. I hadn't realized that executive orders could entail renaming mountains, rivers, parks, etc. There should definitely be a limit to the executive actions a president can take. As it stands now, it seems like a vehicle that could be used for tyranny. Not that this "president" would ever think of such a thing.

An ACT of Congress named Mount McKinley.
Since WHEN does the executive branch
get to REPEAL laws and acts of Congress?

Did somebody amend the Constitution
while we were asleep?

We elected a Republican Congress in the
expectation that they would stop ceding
authority granted to them by the Constitution,
to the executive branch of the federal
government.

BTW, Congress has no right at all under
the Constitution to abdicate their duties
and responsibilities,
though the cowardly traitors do it
ROUTINELY.

Re: Breaking: Mount McKinley "officially" renamed Denali
It was renamed McKinley as a political move back in the 1917 as a way to promote McKinley during his presidential run. The guy who proposed the name was a gold prospector, and McKinley was a proponent of the gold standard. His opponent was for the silver standard. Purely political.

For the last 40 years they've been trying to put it back to the original name that everyone in the area calls it. McKinley had nothing to do with Alaska or the mountain in the first place. This has had overwhelmingly bi-partisan support.

The person who blocked the bill from 1975 through 2009 was a congressman from Ohio, whose district includes McKinley's home town. He retired in 2009.

In January of this year, a bill was submitted by Senator Murkowski of Alaska, a Republican, to change the name back to its original name of Denali.

The Dept. of the Interior pushed the renaming through this year, and the only thing Obama did was announce that it's going back to its original name.

Republicans wanted it renamed. The only people vocally against it are the people representing McKinley's home district.

This has been going on for decades. There are much better things to blame on Obama.

You act as if the things you've mentioned aren't covered on this forum and elsewhere with a million times more fervor. You also act as if discussing one issue precludes us from discussing another. You don't seem to be aware that the Dinali story will last one day---three at most---and then be totally forgotten by the more important issues you've outlined. I've seen a lot of posts like yours every time someone gets up in arms about a story that they don't think is worthy of coverage.

Ultimately, this story will gravitate to our unconscious minds. It'll be filed so far back that in six months someone could ask you, "Remember when Obama renamed McKinley to Dinali?" and you'll have to think about it for a second and then reply, "Oh YEAAAAH, I DO remember that!"

But what also gravitates to the unconscious is the idea that Obama is a tyrant who abuses the executive pen. It'll be filed in the same place where you file all the other evidence of his abuses, scams, biases, crimes, ego and power-mongering. In order to develop a well-rounded view of something, you need evidence from various sources. THIS thread, which will fall to the bottom of the forum and disappear the moment it's unpinned, can simply be seen as one more notch against Obama. For that reason, it's a good thread. People like you should stop trying to impugn every topic just because it doesn't happen to float your boat at that moment.

Re: Breaking: Mount McKinley "officially" renamed Denali
It's all softkill psychological operations. Hussein Obama knows the effect this will have on many Americans that know what's up and so forth, but equally he knows no one will do crap about it. Why? No lines were crossed in terms of collateral, yet he accomplished another objective. He will continue to run on unchallenged as usual. Congress will do nothing as usual. How is it that no one here truly understands these points is beyond me. Hussein Obama and his benefactors have effectively spayed and neutered the entire political structure to levels far worse when they were in their hey-day being corrupt and running unobstructed.

The level of the game has changed and the ante is being serious upped so and the war against America and her people go unabated. None of this is right. None of it is Constitutional. Token obeisance is being given, if that. At some point all of this banter and mindgames will end to only evolve into total chaos they way TPTB wants it. To that end, stay focused and look for the things that are not being looked into that should be. Chances are, that's where the next moves will be executed.

Anyway, I get where many of you are coming from. The sides of the arguments are good on both ends, but like one person stated on the thread, there are greater things to be focused on than the renaming of a mountain. Minor distractions are to be counted on as the "norm" and a psychological victory to the enemy. You want to survive the outcome of this war? Then plan ahead. Stay informed. Sort through the misinformation/disinformation. Don't lose your heads.

Stay frosty

Asshat in chief renames the highest peak in North America Denali. McKinley was named after our 25th president since 1917.

[link to mobile.nytimes.com]

Why?? Because McKinley supported keeping the US on the gold standard? He was a brevet major in the union army during the civil war? He led the nation to victory during the Spanish American war? HE WAS MORE OF A PRESIDENT THAN OBAMA WILL EVER BE?
