He's now a workaholic and couldn't give a shit about his massive family. He's massively 'successful' -- rich, wife & kids, etc, but he still has the same bullshit problems joe shmoe has. It's blown my mind how even when you succeed, you still are haunted by the demons of your past, you never corrected. Most people who join the military, if not all of them, are doing so because they need a brand to dictate their life to them. When it's all over, they are right where they started out. Is it any surprise that in a generation so insanely self-aware, that people wouldn't give a shit about the 'pride' and 'code of conduct' so near and dear to the "elite of the elite"? I made the decision to train like a Navy SEAL without actually joining the Navy SEALs. The harder road is the road you travel on your own. The military uses you up and spits you out, but in return, you get to feel like a bad-ass in your youth. Maybe that's worth it, but I prefer to form my own identity. |
