I would bet you were 'bitch slapped' in the first week of your 'teaching', and have been a pussy EVER SENCE ! Quoting: Dr. P ( On YOU ! ) 147787But you DID gert your pension, didn't you, pussywillow ? But you NEVER made a stand on ANY point of importance IN YOUR LIFE, DID YOU? I am quite young, thank you, and I did not get "bitch slapped." And teachers don't really get pensions. I was giving my opinion since it was asked for, and I really was thinking of the child's health and success. I did not say I disagreed with the theories or his interest in physics. He's 10 for goodness sake. What good would it really do? For him? For anyone? Plus, it is a difficult project for a 10 year old--even a genius-to PROVE anything scientific. Forget it. I did not mean to do the volcano. |

Most Merkans don't even believe the structural engineers...who's going to believe a ten year old? He will accomplish nothing and may be setting himself up to be the class weirdo for the next five years, and you don't want a lonely, ostracized fifteen year old, that's a big fer sure. Let him do his rebelling at the more appropriate age of seventeen or eighteen. Or sixteen. lol. In the meantime, here are some other ideas (tons of them) for science projects. I get the feeling this boy is longing for your attention and approval, why don't you talk with him and the two of you come up with something a little less dangerous to his tender psyche. If he were even thirteen, I'd say go for it, damn the torpedoes, but he's just too young. [link to www.scienceproject.com] [link to www.amasci.com] [link to www.geocities.com] |

andy thomas User ID: 147839 United States 09/25/2006 10:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it's great that you've got the kid thinking for himself on 9/11... he will be able to question everything he hears going forward... and at some point you should probably teach him to question everything you yourself tell him, as well... in the meantime, it may be best not to subject him to the criticism of making it a science project... most people really don't want to know.. plus, it may be impossible at this time to determine just how the towers were felled... so it would be difficult to portray in a science project... instead, you should try 'rocketizing' various scale models: get some estes model rocket engines and slap them onto model cars and glider planes and whanot.... or, build an estes rocket (with d12-5s or whatever the biggest engine are), and put a radiocamera in the payload, so as it parachutes down you can get video... or put a radioocamera on a model glider, then put rocket engines on the glider to get it way up in the air... or maybe you and he could build a robot together... |

Even if the theory is correct, a 10-year-old should tackle something much more simple. Real grownup science is not only about gigantic speculations but about careful discoveries on a small scale. As a teacher, I would be much more impressed with a very close examination of a living plant by a 10-year-old. |
