If a Tsunami were to hit NYC...
If there was a possibility for a Tsunami to hit the east coast, where would the safest location be?

I live in New York (not in the city area though).

-Would I be safe on top of the catskill mountains?
-Do I take a train to Pennsylvania or further in the west?

Any advise or comments are welcome.

p.s This is a "what-if" question. I'm not saying that a tsunami will hit the east coast but from what I'm reading there is a possibility. Just want to be safe then sorry.

Thanks for the tip. I was just over thinking certain scenarios in my head. I don't own a car (I have a bike), so public transportation would be a key.

Someone mentioned to me that higher elevations would be safer. I'm looking at the catskills and it seems safe... but I'm not sure.

I'm hearing from Sept. 15 - 28 that something might happen... but I have no clue on the exact date. If anyone knows please feel free to post.

I have thought about this as well seeing as Lake Erie is 2 minutes away behind my house. What about the Adirondack mountains or the Poconos?

I read 8 hours notice most likely. Let's hope his prophecy doesn't come true. I looked up the highest point although I think I have no chance unless the man upstairs helps me.

Assuming the worst, if a 300ft Tsunami were to hit New York then my best bet will have to be going to The catsills. (mountain Elevation: 4,154').

I really hope is he wrong. I really don't mean to frighten anyone but after reading multiple forums, I need to make sure that I am ready for the worst.

If notice is short the highways might be jammed, but I think an asteroid hitting the water would be seen weeks before it hits.

I live in New York City in Astoria Queens. I have been thinking about exactly the same thing as you last 2-3 years especially since I learned about the Canary Islands and the probability that one day and it could be sooner than we care to think, the volcano will erupt and send a tsunami to the east coast. I installed a tsunami early warning app in my phone and hopefully it works and it gives me a warning that a tsunami is coming. We have approximately 9 hours to get the hell out of the East Coast. I am planning on going upstate as far up as I possibly can. I sort of have it mapped out the particular town but of course it depends if I can hit the road before anyone else and before the traffic becomes a standstill with everyone trying to get out of New York City.

This is the definitive post ever on a 300' tsunami from a Canary Islands event hitting the east coast.

Short answer, probably not more than 20 miles inland. But NYC will be toast.

If it is any comfort to you, if Yellowstone blows, you'll be out of the ash cloud and many survivalists out west will be toast.

Hey we're practically neighbors! May I ask what the app is called? Oh, 9 hours?? hmm.. seems short but it's do-abe to get from point A to B if I could possibly get a ride. Upstate where? The entire east coast can potentially flood but It't surely better than being in NY.

I don't think there would be any notice.

This was on the back of my mind... I know for a fact that the elites know what's going on. I feel as if the entire event will be a calm before the storm but I'm keeping an eye on the last weeks of September. Make sure to warn everyone in New York.

I was thinking Catskills too, but I think I'm going to keep going past Catskills, for a bit anyway.... just like you I do not own a car either, I gave that up long time ago when I moved to New York City and it was no where to park. So what am I going to do? The only option I really have is to hijack a car I will not hurt anyone I will just simply take their car or Hotwire a car. I've never done anything like that in my life, but I taught myself how to hotwire a car for the sole purpose of getting the hell out of Dodge eeer New York City. Public transportation such as going to the Port Authority is not an option and it will not work. Think about it hundreds if not thousands of other people may also know about tsunami coming and they make it there before you are there will not be enough buses to get everybody., it will be absolute chaos and then we will be stuck in the middle of Manhattan

How bout a motorcycle?
Zips threw traffic like a greased pig.
You can even take a small motorcycle or scooter inside your dwelling when not used, so parking isn't an issue.

Yeah I can definitely imagine a chaotic scenario with public transportation (I'm really lucky to live a block away from the LIRR) but it won't work to my full advantage. It's pretty much survival of the fittest now...

Hot wiring isn't a bad idea!

Hey there neighbor. The tsunami app is called tsunami early warning I founded at Google Play Store. You enter your phone number and GPS find your coordinates automatically and it will send you an SMS text notice.

Public transportation? You're dead. Get up high in the nearest substantially built building. Something with a lot of mass and a substantial foundation.

It might be no less realistic to wonder what you'll be doing with all the money you win from the $325 million Lotto.

If a tsunami were to hit NYC, try to be on the sightseers deck at the top of the Empire State Building.
