How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
4 years ago, I took 3 500 mg pills (1 a day for only 3 dayas) of Levaquin and had a horrible adverse reaction that lasts to this day. Nerve damage, cartiledge, circulatory and soft tissue damage, IQ loss, and much more.

Has anyone here ever had this experience? Its called getting floxed. I've tried everything. I am able to stand and walk, but cannot jog or run, in chronic pain, and loss of mental health. Magnesium helps along wish fish oil, and vitamins, I think, but I'm looking for other healing therapies, that would help my DNA heal on the deepest cellular level.

These drugs are from a class called fluroquinolones. They are very dangerous, have a black box warning from the FDA which my GP "didn't know about". I hate the medical establishment of denial, and want to warn everyone here to beware of these types types of drugs, Levaquin and Cipro (antibiotics from hell). Look after your elderly folk, who often get prescribed this crap, then die.

Cipro can cause Achilles Tendon Rupture - do you have that?

it can cause C-diff after only a few doses - I had that myself.

I know someone with the tendonitis - it is awful.

My achilles tendon did not rupture, which is why I did not win my lawsuit. I have chronic pain, tendonitis, but that which is different from sports related tendonitis, this is a nightmare version, chemical based tendonitis.

I've never heard of C-diff, I will look that up thanks.

Also, I am not old, as the warnings state that "older folks are more likely to experience bad reactions" I was 30 at the time and quite healthy!

I don't think I've experienced C-Diff, but according to my blood tests which I take every 6 months for the last 4 years, I have high inflammation. And there is no accounting for it, I eat a good diet, (I do eat bread and grains/dairy/cheese/sugar however), don't drink or smoke, and eat alot of herbs and spices like ginger/tumeric/garlic/onions/ and drink tons of water.

If anyone here has ever been "floxed" please chime in on this thread what has helped you !

I think it's important to avoid caffeine when taking these drugs. But yes this happened to me about 15 years ago. It takes time to get better. I don't know of any way to expedite healing I'm afraid.

Are you on it right now, or has it been awhile? My number one recommendation is for you to get a full panel blood test: cholesterol, hormones, thyroid, vit d levels, cortisol, inflammation, B12, and see what you might be deficient in before you go buying a bunch of supplements. But if you are experiencing the horrible nerve/muscle spasms which feel like Freddie Kruger living inside your skin, my deepest sympathies to you.

I also recommend acupuncture and massage. Supplements for muscles and anxiety, CALM magnesium powder. Chinese medicine supplement for general well-being, Free and Easy Wanderer. (you can get both of these from Amazon). But I know about the personal quest to find answers to your own health problems, and that process can be empowering also instead of listening to everyone else's advice. Just sharing what has helped me.

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
I fell apart at the age of 38 because of this stuff. It took me 8 years to find something that worked on me. I had level 10 pain for the first 2 years from head to toe. I also couldn't walk anymore. I had to relearn how to walk. After 4 years give or take a year it was long ago. I was down to level 8 pain and after 6 years I was down to level 5 pain and this was daily 24 hours a day. After 8 years I started Protein Whey and Amino Acids and that took all my pain away. I still drink it once every two weeks now to keep it in my system. But I drank it daily to start. It was my miracle. If I couldn't drink that stuff I'd be back to level 10 pain in no time flat.

I hope people heed your warning. It could destroy them. Like it did me.

It took me years to figure out what happened. But once the pieces of the puzzle fell in place I know that's what caused me to fall apart.

Started with memory loss.
Then the pain.
Swelling kicked in
pins and needles for a whole year head to toe.
IBS
A sheet hurt my skin
I also got shock waves in my brain
Sometimes my skin felt like it was on fire
Took me 45 minutes to roll out of bed every day
Couldn't walk for a year
Couldn't use my right arm or hand for a year

The only relief I had was water. When I was in water I had no pain. If I sprayed my feet I could walk. Water took my pain away but you can't live in water. When I was dry I was in constant pain. I soaked everyday in a neighbors pool to have 2 hours of relief a day to keep my sanity. Pain makes you feel like your going crazy at that level.

Doctors that couldn't figure it all out said it was all in my head. I told them off big time. Even got one fired.

Passed every test they gave me in a hospital for 4 days. According to them I had nothing wrong but they couldn't figure out where the pain was coming from. They even let me smoke in my hospital room because they couldn't stand to see me move from my bed to a wheel chair to be wheeled outside. They gave me a room freshener and said this will be our secret. I had a private room. They all felt really bad for me.

Welcome to my past it's one I wouldn't wish on my WORST ENEMY.

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
healthy diet, multivitamin, and strenuous exercise helps (like 30 hard minutes on an elliptical)

read up on iodine benefits--

IODINE frequently can clear out toxins and act as a body reset

use a Qtip, take 1 drop of ELEMENTAL iodine (the 5% stuff) and carefully put on tongue (be careful not to stain teeth)

let it sink in for 30 seconds then drink a glass of water (swish water around mouth too)

IMPORTANT - eat some yogurt or milk one hour after, as in some people the iodine will kill a lot of gut bacteria

you MAY feel slightly ill the next day as the iodine FLUSHES OUT toxins and detoxes

if you feel fine, one week later do two more drops

IMPORTANT - do not use higher amounts than those given

a follow up drop every two months should then be enough

your welcome

Wow, AC. It sounds like you experienced a true nightmare. I'm so glad to hear you have gotten better, although it has taken a very long time. Did you have supportive friends/family?

However, opposite from you, I DO wish this on my worst enemy: the ignorant greedy doctors that prescribe this shit, then deny that you had a reaction to it. I understand that not everyone has this experience, but I think its fairly common. So glad to hear that you got one doctor fired. I wish I could do the same. I too had to relearn to walk. I was walking around after about a year. The first day of my reaction, I had to be wheelchaired out of work. My legs were blue and purple, I was freezing cold, (during warm springtime) so bad that I had a bunch of hot water bottles strapped around me. But the worst part is the loss of IQ and memory, my mental/emotional functions. This was a real trauma at a cellular level when you have this experience. And the blank stares from your family, friends, and medical people, that cannot SEE what is happening is not helpful.

So interesting that water helped you. I wonder if living near the ocean would make me happier.

Thanks for sharing your story

Also, AC, I hope you havent gone away: what brand of whey protein/amino acids did you take that gave you such relief?

I use Immunopro Non-Denatured Whey Protein and it was really helpful for about 3 years, but it doesn't help anymore for some reason.

I took Levaquin about 2 years ago for a sinus infection (I'm resistant to amoxicillin and others). I got seriously depressed. Like saying out loud, "I'm having suicidal thoughts" depressed after 4 days. It was bad. My wife threw it all away and I was back to normal within a couple of days (still had the sinus infection, though).

Horrible, horrible "medicine". Avoid.

Thanks for replying. I have heard of the detoxing properties of iodine. I bought Lugols 2 % and currently put one drop on my skin. It gives me more energy, but does make me feel ill also. Maybe taking it orally is better?

Yes, avoid. There is something hellishly wrong with the way this class of antibiotics works. It is almost pure evil, or at least, that is what I felt for a long time. Thanks for your testimony.

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
Being prescribed Cipro started the nightmare for me. Nausea and vomiting for 6 months, got weaker and weaker till I no longer could walk either. In and out of hospital for months. Finally took charge of my own health and stopped all the statin medications and Beta Blockers and began slowly to feel better. Started taking supplements, CoQ10, Vitamin D3, Magnesium, Fish oil, Curcumin. But I found out it isn't just Cipro that can raise havoc. My dentist prescribed an antibiotic before I was to have a dental procedure which caused me to have C-dif and the stupid doctor in the emergency gave me Leviquin by IV which made it worse. Was back in the hospital for 21 days. Almost died. I don't have much use for doctors today. All they want to do is push drugs on you. They have been so completely brainwashed by big pharma that they aren't of much use at all as they are not interested in your well-being, only interested in the kickback they get from giving you dangerous expensive drugs.

I would say alpha lipoic acid with biotin for nerve repair and something to build muscle. Whey protein maybe?

Read about this OP - sorry this happened.

Something similar happened in our family with a different type of drug.

Lesson : ALWAYS RESEARCH DRUGS BEFORE TAKING THEM!

Doctors don't know shit except what big pharma pimps to them.

Diabetics swear by Jarrow brand ALA w/ biotin to reverse neuropathy. Look at reviews on Amazon.

Also...look into camu camu or liposomal Vitamin C for boosting immune, healing and collagen production.

It has to be the R-alpha liporic acid. The body doesn't absorb the other alpha liporic acid very good. It is made cheap. The R-alpha liporic acid does cost a lot more. There is a doctor in New Mexico that does ivs of alpha liporic acid.

Was on it for quite a while some years back, ruptured both main tendons going into my right ankle. $10,000 later after tendon repair and the surgeon having to cut my hell off my skeleton to reposition it to accommodate the new shorter tendons and to keep them from ripping again...all I can say is now I have a perminate limp and 2 long metal screws that hurt daily that holds my heel bone onto my skeleton.... Levo and Cipro very bad JUJU.

Yep. I'm going on 4 years since 3 500 mg pills of Levaquin. The doctor who prescribes it denies it was Levaquin that did this, but I've seen orthopedic surgeons who admit that this happens. I was not warned about this life destroying "side effect". I was a very healthy 32 yr old woman. I was prescribed it for a urinary tract infection and possible ear infection. Can't run again, can't walk more than 2 miles, not fun to hike with, bike with etc. It sucks. Doctors don't know shit about what they prescribe. Its just a symptom of our overall out of control greed.

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
Not only about the muscles in my legs though, my IQ went down, had many mysterious neuro-cognitive issues, memory loss, short term memory loss, nerve pain, increased mood swings, anger, irritability, loss of social function and depression.

My tendons didn't officially rupture, so I was not accepted by any law firm because "Levaquin doesn't cause this". Fuck this shit. I just wish there was some kind of retribution. I'm thankful I have a job and can walk around, but I'm in pain alot, and aware of the nerve tingling in my legs for 4 years now. I thought it would heal by now, but I'm guessing its permanent damage.

Kudos to those who are not having any problems with Levaquin and Cipro. Knowing what I know, how I was a healthy person, then 3 days later permanently damaged, I would not play russian roulette with my body/mind/soul/spirit. Perhaps it would be a fair trade off in the event I was on my dying breath, from some incurable infection after having had exhausted all other alternative, but prescribing it for a urinary tract infection is criminal and medically negligent. And I can do NOTHING about it.
