Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
Marine Combat Vet 9700 -
Have you received diagnosis for codes, like CFS and refilled your claim - rather than file for injury that is fuzzy to prove - or that they fucking stonewall about - have you sought diagnosis for your symptoms so that you can file -

I want you to know I do not believe I have either Fibro or IBS but I have the codes and that is what was approved for service connection. I was also diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue which I sure as hell do have - that one I say yes, for sure because my fatigue is the worst of it even when the pain is awful. This is not just I am tired fatigue this is sandbags attached to my limbs fatigue. Dragging so tired I hurt fatigue. Want to end it sometimes fatigue.

My claims were approved based on diagnosed conditions despite paperwork stating I was actually injured by the vaccine - they say this injury caused my conditions.

So you see if you are attempting to claim with injury instead of "CONDITIONS WITH CODES" that could be a bit stumble point for the VA.

I am just thinking out loud here, I hope I have not over stepped bounds. Its just I know the VA is a tough nut to crack but there are methods that work better than others. I want you to get compensated.

No Combat Veteran should have to try and live on 900 a month! Fuck that.

.....unable to exchange oxygen

This is how I feel when I attempt to exercise. It's not about being out of shape, it's like my muscles don't get enough oxygen and not because I'm not breathing. Like a drug induced exercise intolerance.

I once heard this is due to the mitochondria of the cells being damaged.

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
I am going to try and keep this short because if I don't I could be typing for hours.

I was on cipro in about Aug. 2010. I was 42. Shortly after I started noticing random numbness above my right knee and random difficulty moving my right leg. By christmas I had an ear infection and a ruptured ear drum. I was again placed on cipro. The numbness and difficulty moving progressed to both legs and my right arm. I had to use a walker, move my legs by raising my hip and dragging the leg.

By January I was in a wheel chair completely unable to use my legs and my right arm. I couldn't cut my own food and had to learn to do things with my left hand. I couldn't tell if I had to pee or not. I had trouble speaking cause the muscles in the right side of my face weren't functioning. My oxygen levels were so low my skin was gray. I could barely breath because the diaphragm is a muscle and like my other muscles, it was not functioning properly.

I went to dr after dr. Test after test. Elevated white cell count, elevated platelet count, severe nerve damage, no sign of stroke or heart attack. No one knew what was wrong or what to do about it so they decided it was all in my head.

I spent wks on the computer researching everything I could think of. I looked into the symptoms, rare hereditary illness, got on ancestry and looked into what my relatives died from etc. I researched the best vitamins and the best form of each vitamin. What needs to be taken with what to make it more effective etc.

The closest thing I found that matched the symptoms was Myasthenia Gravis.

It wasn't until a few years later I realized the connection to cipro.

I began a rigorous diet and supplement regimen.

3 people I knew were also on cipro when I was. 1 was a women in her 20's and another was an elementary school aged child. Both ended up with the same symptoms. The adult ended up diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, the child hospitalized.

5 years later: I have good and bad days but for the most part I function semi normally with out anymore supplements. I have to be careful not to over tax my muscles and rest more often than I would like and when I don't I end up using a cane but that is a big difference from being wheel chair bound and unable to cut my own food.

Not sure how the child fared, I haven't talked to her mom in a while but the other adult is still in pretty bad shape and is taking numerous prescription drugs.

Edit: can't remember what happened with the third person

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
Not only about the muscles in my legs though, my IQ went down, had many mysterious neuro-cognitive issues, memory loss, short term memory loss, nerve pain, increased mood swings, anger, irritability, loss of social function and depression.

My tendons didn't officially rupture, so I was not accepted by any law firm because "Levaquin doesn't cause this". Fuck this shit. I just wish there was some kind of retribution. I'm thankful I have a job and can walk around, but I'm in pain alot, and aware of the nerve tingling in my legs for 4 years now. I thought it would heal by now, but I'm guessing its permanent damage.

Kudos to those who are not having any problems with Levaquin and Cipro. Knowing what I know, how I was a healthy person, then 3 days later permanently damaged, I would not play russian roulette with my body/mind/soul/spirit. Perhaps it would be a fair trade off in the event I was on my dying breath, from some incurable infection after having had exhausted all other alternative, but prescribing it for a urinary tract infection is criminal and medically negligent. And I can do NOTHING about it.

Have you had an MRI scan done, that should show up where the inflammation you talked about in an earlier post may be, especially if it's near nerves or in the brain which it sounds like it could be according to symptoms you have been describing. I would suggest you have a MRI it may at least tell you whats been happening.

Yep, had an mri, I don't recall them saying anything about it. Once they saw the high platelet count they kind of stopped looking.

I put myself on an, organic, non gmo diet. I juiced carrots, kale, green apples, celery and ginger everyday. Took IP6 gold, Life extension coq10, r-lipoic acid, acetyl l carnitine, p5p, gamma e tochepherol, black seed oil pills and massage the oil into my skin, metabolic maintenance phosphorylated b complex, fish oil, zinc picolinate, wheat grass, move free advanced triple strength with msm, metabolic maint. biotin, metabolic maint. D, curcumin, tumeric and taurine.

In about a month I was able to move again but had to use the walker. I continued this heavy duty regiment for about a year and a half. I then went gluten free for 4 or 5 months followed by a detox and paragone in 2013.

Now things are like I said, I simply need to be careful not to push to far. When I do, the pain in my legs comes back first, then the pins and needles, then the numbness, then an inability to move. When I start doing better, it goes in reverse; numbness, pins and needles, pain and then back to normal.

I no longer take the supplements and am back on a regular diet. If I start to feel like I may have an issue I take the R-lipoic acid, Acetyl l carnitine and b vitamins for a few days and all is well.

Oh and I regularly test my platelet count and it has been normal.

Forgot to add that I also took magnesium and potassium in small amounts and started drinking smart water. also had to limit caffeine. caffeine, choline and nicotine all attach to the same receptors. Too much caffeine and nicotine and it doesn't matter how much choline you take cause the receptors are already filled up with the bad stuff.

Anon 64979700, do you have a Paypal account or PO box? I've found magnesium gluconate to be the most readily absorbed form and it does help. I can have some shipped to you if it will help.

My husband is AD but near retirement. He was made to take antimalarials plus levaquin via IV and it has really messed him up. Even though he's never turned down a mission or deployment and is physically viable, this shitty administration is attempting to med board him (and others) for damage done to his shoulder and feet. He's only 36!

Four years ago I took 3 doses of cipro and experienced horrible swelling of the knees and (temporary but scary) mental symptoms. The ER doctor blamed "toxic psychosis" from the cipro. This is the only doctor that has ever admitted the perils of this drug class.

I hope your ordeal with the VA is successful.

This is criminal!

(Don't take fluoride based pharmaceuticals like Diflucan, Prozac, etc or you'll be back at square one. Supposedly, NSAIDS are a bad choice as well. Taking NSAIDS during a round of these antibiotics is dangerous.)

Keefer, yogurt, and probiotics can help bring back the bacteria in your digestive system. Antibiotics kill them off.

Selenium and L-Lysine will help increase your T and B cells.
Sea kelp, sea salt, lugols iodine will help your thyroid function. ( I use the iodine near my navel)

Vitamins. A good daily vit. Standard Process makes the best vitamins and supplements.

See this guy and attend his lectures.

what about CoQ10?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59228281

I took Taurine (I forget the brand) and the life extension brand of CoQ10.

It is recommended that all patients with cardo myopathy take them. Testing shows that not all people that are severely deficient end up with congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy but all patients with these ailments are severely deficient.

The heart is a muscle. My mother had these issues right around the same time I had my issues. She took the taurine and Coq10 along with large doses of vitamin d. It took a while but she went from the ability to use 7% of her heart to 75% over a period of a year. Docs said they have never seen anything like it. They expected her to be dead in less than 3 months. It's been five years and she is still kicking.

Re: How to heal from adverse reaction to Levaquin or Cipro?
^^^Well I'm glad you sound like you made a comeback from the whole ordeal. Its going on 5 years for me.

I just bought Source Naturals brand CoQ10. And I'm looking into other supplements. Also, I started juicing kale/celery/cucumber every morning before my 3 egg per day breakfast.

Mostly now, I take fish oil, vit D, Phosphataydl Serine, Vi b12, Vit B complex sometimes, magnesium citrate powder (CALM brand), Free and Easy Wanderer (Chinese herbs) RLA, NAC (sometimes) Vit E....overall the last few years I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars. But I miss just going about my day not thinking about the constant buzzing in my legs, and fear of tearing a tendon, and not being able to run/swim/play tennis/bike over 3 mile. But I know now that I'm not the only one. But we're all isolated it seems.

Thanks for your help

The issue of receptor sites sounds interesting. It's probably where all the damage is done when someone is poisoned by these drugs.

I just bought the book from the tendonitis website about flouroquinolone toxicity. I'm going to read it and see what it says. Hope I didn't just blow another $40.
