Well, suffice it to say, they were so fucked up, I came in as a temp to try and help them. First thing they did was give me a cube next to the security guy. Dude's smart, uber smart, so smart of course he and I knew immediately what needs to be done, group policy lockdown, don't let your programmers run your company, don't let them ask for 15 versions of Javascript, don't give them admins perms, etc

You know, smart stuff.

So, a couple months later, security guy gets a better job with smarter company, your East Coast data, sits where it is. Read that again: Smart guy leaves important company, data stays behond without smart guy!

So I am still there without any smart guy now, company off the rails, programmers request and get admin access, like, "Can we put a server in conference room F? "NO, FUCK OFF! GOD DAM"

So then, I left the contract, without notifying my temp-slavers, and they denied me unemployment.

Treating American IT worker as shit, was the final straw for me, I can't wait to see that Atlas Shrugged moment for IT, actually its happening now.

My advice is get the fuck away from computers if you don't know the sharp end.

I am at [drug retail corporation #1 on Earth] in their IT department, where of course, they use "Year Up" yong people as intern slaves,

I am introduced to Indian guy X of like 30 they hired, these men are

"packagers"

This is not an IT job title, okay? Deployment packges, is not a fucking job that you cut your own citizens out of, andf then hire foreigners.

To listen to these Indian dudes talk as if they know ANYTHING, THEY DO NOT. Packaging? Like fucking .RAR files and shit? That's a job title they shipped you over for??

It's like all our managers are literally 100% dickholes, I mean I worked for maybe one or two men I could respect, out of hundreds.

IT has been great for me as a career. 25 years now, only 3 companies. each time i moved because i was headhunted. been at the latest gig almost 5 years, was 10 years at the last one, this one is in public sector. quite secure and with a pension. learn something new every day. great creative outlet as well creating solutions to complex problems. never went to college or uni, been using computers since the late 70's. just proved myself. i will also now hire staff based on experience and potential not degrees.

that has not been my experience at all. i have had the power and latitude to create my own solutions and networks. i did it my way.

I.T is overwelmingly over saturated. If you arent young with a college/university degree or 15 years experience you have no chance. You also need to live in a city with jobs.

Based on this thread and your experience you are better off getting a job selling laptops at bestbuy and even that youmay have no chance in getting.

A+ will get you a job on the geeksquad installing ram on some grandmas computer.

Anything other than a+ will be completely over your head.

But there are some smart people out there.

Colleges do not make smarts, they just profit from that word.

Colleges actually are the root of evil. Yet, I mean the faculty and old asshole alums

not the books, campus or students.

You can still do it if you want to although things are a lot tougher than they were 20 years ago. It's not too hard to get a help desk job, that's where I started. While you are on the help desk concentrate on getting your certs. I did a+ then network+. After that CCNA and CCNP. The Ciscos have now expired, so I'm going after my Juniper certs now instead.

Build you own lab. Routers, switches, servers, firewalls. A lot of that gear you can get for next to nothing, even free if you are willing to dumpster dive. Once you have the position you should be able to rise as high as you want if you are smart. I cannot tell you how many guys I've worked with who are now senior engineers making anywhere from 80k to 150k. One kid started in the billing dept, moved to tech support, came to biz support, then advanced services. Got all his Cisco and Juniper certs etc. Now a neteng3 making 80k. All in the course of 2 years. The kid is 23.

It can be done.

As a CEO I am happy to

1: pay my guy to make my shit secure, like attached anti-tank to me personally, shooting holes in IT policy so I can use my iPhone or tard ass smartphone droidthing

2: not give a fuck about the IT dept because a churned froth of employees down there makes them nice and limber when I say I fire them all day, I do.

3: Since they come and go down there, I own and control the flow. My workers wonder why shits fucked up, haha, they will be fucked.
