You will find them in the tags or sewn into the garmets of most clothing and permantently affixed to other high value portable items here in the USA. Quoting: Taewen They don't transmit anything without an RFID reader nearby. You are talking about those heavy plastic things on items of value that if not take off, will make an alarm sound when you try to leave. This is different. It looks like a small circuit board. Everybody knows what you're talking about and all saying the same thing. OK...we had never seen one before, and I don't like it. It violates my human sovereignty. It is an invasion of privacy. Been seeing them since before the internet, like 1993-1994 at least. |

He told me it was a tracker...freaked us both out. What kind of product was this in, MW? It was taped to the back of a book I ordered. It freaked me out. They have been putting those in books for years to curb theft. |

I don't recall where purchased but the insole was loose and when I lifted it there this thing was, my spouse is a electronic tech and knew right away what it was, it had a sticky back and I took it into town and stuck it to a car in a parking lot. maybe not the right thing to do but it rid me of it. at the time I was in a custody battle and we didn't know if it came in shoe or was placed there as daughter had worn my shoes to her fathers home. wont ever forget it no matter where it came from, was a very odd feeling that it was in my shoe. |

Don't be silly you got your parcel now chuck the chip in the bin and it's gone. It's not like Amazon didn't have your address to deliver too. They made sure they knew where your parcel was till you got it. That's it. You would have been the first to complain if your parcel didn't turn up, and they couldn't tell you where it was. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 59866150 United States 09/11/2015 08:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.cnn.com] Even when deployed for science or the public, some people still get a Big Brother feeling -- the uncomfortable sense of being under constant, secret surveillance -- from the idea of putting trillions of monitors all over the world. "It's a very, very, very huge potential privacy invasion because we're talking about very, very small sensors that can be undetectable, effectively," said Lee Tien, an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a privacy advocate. "They are there in such numbers that you really can't do anything about them in terms of easy countermeasures." |

He told me it was a tracker...freaked us both out. You and hubby better learn to get out more, or something... These are used to track/take inventory, prevent theft, etc. They are everywhere and simple technology that companies like Barnes and Noble put in essentially every one of their books. Moran. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 61984016 United States 09/11/2015 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They stick em in things like books to prevent retail theft. The make the alarm ring at the front door if the cashier doesn't "de-magnetize" it first. Amazon probably bought the stock off some book store chain that went bankrupt and they left them in. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69263183 No, I know what you are talking about, but this was a circuit board. My husband said he had only seen these in electrical equipment. Changing light bulbs at the truck stop doesn't make one an electrician. It's an RFID chip, nothing more. Sheesh. |

RFID technology acts similarly to a GPS geofence, but can be an alternative approach where a lower cost option makes more sense. Readers can be installed in your facility to track when assets enter or leave your warehouse. RFID tags are used both in conjunction and independent of GPS tracking technologies. Like DOH said, I'm surprised this is the first time you and your husband have seen one. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen one in a LONG time. It is only activated in proximity to a retail store's checkout counters or doors. It's for theft prevention and inventory tracking. Be honest, now; are you mild Down's Syndrome? |
