Just stuck in DC at the moment for job reasons. Quoting: Lady Jane Smith It gets more awful here all the time. Feel like I'm in a 3rd world country. BBQ is on me. Bring your hubby and ammo. WTF are you waiting for, Christmas? Husband needs to get positioned in the company where we can live anywhere with airport access. He is a Group President and has companies under him. The Board of Directors has told him to buy some companies in Texas. Just got to get that done and we can move. Hopefully, in the next 2 years. Will need a moving truck for the ammo alone ;) Seriously. You know me. Get er' done. Fate whispers to the warrior "You cannot withstand the storm" the warrior whispers back "I am the storm" INTJ-A |

The very essence of a democracy is the ability to make free associations especially in government. I can't say whether Texas should secede but they - and any OTHER state - should have the absolute RIGHT to do so, or our "democracy" is as meaningless as most of us think it is. Quoting: mehitable 63830259 This isn't a democracy, it's a republic. The Declaration of Independence spells it out clearly or we wouldn even have a republic and the constitution would be void. Read the Declaration of Independence. Anonymous Coward User ID: 60551378 United States 09/15/2015 10:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have no skin in the situation, but there's a popular myth that Texas has some kind of constitutional (U.S. Constitution) to secede from the United States; this is completely false. I think some are confusing a clause that would allow Texas to split up into seperate states, and this is true. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70327032 The bulk of the Texas economy is revolved around servicing in one fashion or another the rest of the U.S. Those skyscrapers in Dallas and Houston are filled with U.S. and multinational corporations, primarily servicing the rest of the U.S. And Texas has boomed primarily because of the economies of Dallas, Houston, and other large metro/urban areas. Rural Texas, like rural America in general, is in overall poor economic shape and bleeding population, especially young people. Another huge aspect of the Texas economy is the federal government, especially the large military bases (which of course would close if Texas seceded from the U.S. Texas would take a MASSIVE hit if it seceded. Finally, a good sized chunk of the Texas population moved there because it's a part of the U.S. and because of the presence of those companies and other employers I mentioned above. Most would leave if Texas seceded, resulting in a huge population drop. I learned long ago don't try to talk "Logic" to a Texan or Southerner. Once their mind is made up they don't care what the Facts are, they are NOT going to change their opinion. Yep: What would Dallas /Ft Worth be like if it ceased being a Transit Hub for the US because it would be a "foreign country" (airlines, trucking companies, railroads) making it a requirement for passports, border control, vehicle inspections etc. and all the delays those entail. What would Houston be like when 1/2 of it's oil industry headquarters, geologists, and assorted types like that left town since it was no longer a part of the US? Obviously NASA would leave too along with all the related high tech development that still feeds off of that. What would San Antonio be like when the USAF would pull out ENTIRELY? All the aircraft manufacturing in the state that revolves around US Defense Contracting .... GONE, along with their related industries, suppliers, and educated engineers. Ditto the electronics industry that is tied to the US Defense Department. Can have design OR MANUFACTURING of defense related electronics done in a foreign country. "Texas" would remain as a physical place but much of the core of it's White technically skilled class, the people who separate from oil who drive the jobs and economy of Texas forward, would be moving away because their employers would be moving out of the COUNTRY of Texas. That movement of the educated WHITE population out of the state would accentuate the growing population of Mexican Latino's ... and speed up the day that is coming anywhere where demographics make Texas a Mexican satellite state ... "Mexico Lite" if you will. I have found that those who are Chest Thumping Texans don't seem to be very good at math ... they can't understand the numbers of the Demographic Wave that is about to sweep over Texas and make it the second large state in the US to become predominately Latino (California is #1) so shill your saying they would do to texas like they did to the great lakes region and ohio river valley and move away all the jobs?like to maybe china or mexico?say it isn't so.texas still has a seaport and i dont think the oil is leaving.you pompous yuppie type dickheads think corporate offices really add that much?we have motorola boeing united airlines and on and on.not one fucking cell phone is made here.nor are airplanes.another dem controlled state that the feds probably wish would secede as you math wizard types would say is nothing but a liability.a billions in debt money pit. |
