Re: What book could you not finish... because it was so boring
50 shades of grey

Watched the movie and it was easier to get into.

The book was trash. A very slow read.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50816531

Same deal with the Hunger Games series. The movies were excellent, the cast aptly chosen. The books were utter garbage, though. Strangely, there is far more depth and detail in the movies and I mean FAR more. Of course, it's usually the other way around! The books read as if they were a rough draft..., no worse than that, an OUTLINE for what SHOULD have been an actual novel.

I read The Hunger Games in a couple of days. Not the greatest book but it was entertaining.

Don't forget THG is Young Adult fiction.

From school Scarlet Letter.

There's barely any dialogue.

But the absolute dumb ass book of all time has to be Celestine Prophecy.

Atlas Fucking Shrugged. Gawd the descriptions, I fell asleep 5 different times before I shelved it.

I don't get how some people list this book as their ALL time favorite. Apologies if it is your fave

I even fell asleep trying to listen to the audiobook, and I read about 2 books a week.

I read a lot but I couldn't finish "Moby Dick" or "War and Peace".
 Quoting: Factual Error

I find thick books often have boring sections. It's like the author wants to complete an epic tale but fills parts with pages of boring detail. When an author take 5 pages to describe the grass outside a house, I lose interest.

Green eggs & ham.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64853132

how could you not love that book?? i had such fun reading it with my daughter.

Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would eat them in a boat!
And I would eat them with a goat...
And I will eat them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so goodm so goodm you see!

So I will eat them in a box.
And I will eat them with a fox.
And I will eat them in a house.
And I will eat them with a mouse.
And I will eat them here and there.
Say! I will eat them ANHYWHERE!

I do so like
green eggs and ham!
Thank you!
Thank you,
Sam-I-am

to answer your question, OP, ever tried "hunger" by knut hamsun? no some boring as distressingly depressing, a true insight into a man falling into mental illness.

You guys realize that each of these books was secretly designed by the CIA's MK Ultra don't you? If you feel asleep reading one of these, every 33 words was a hypnogigic word designed to make you fall asleep and implant you with mind control instructions.

Doooooooom is upn all of you and you'd don't realize it!

Don't believe me two words:

Guns germs and steel has a video on PBS? And it's fascinating! 3 part series - don't miss it.

Moby Dick was one I couldn't finish in HS.

But I've read a lot of tedious books like The worst journey in the world- about attic explorers and one disaster after another. Try it if you like REAL freezing to death DOOM

I have been an avid reader in different periods of my life. I can only remember one book I could not finish, "Fifty Shades of Grey". It was not exciting and poorly written.

World War Z...The first couple pages we're horrible but then it got pretty good , then horrible again. So I just stopped.

One book I tried to read(can't remember the name) had probably 50 characters in the first 100 pages and I couldn't keep them straight so I threw it away.

Also I've tried reading the bible but no luck. I'm having better luck listening to audio of it.

Laboring through Golden Bough.

It has pages and pages of very incredible and comprehensive information considering the time it was all pulled together but the writing style is super repetitive.

The Red Badge of Courage. I actually finished it because it was required reading, but it was a struggle. I enjoyed all the books I was required to read in school except for that one. Absolutely hated it!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68689794

That surprises me. It's not very long, after all, and does have some fighting in it.

Supposedly, it was a big hit among Civil War veterans because of how accurately it described the fight-or-flight response and how being a hero vs a coward was almost completely situational and automatic. They just didn't scientifically understand combat conditioning at that time.
 Quoting: Billy Guess

I love to read and history is one of my favorite subjects, but I just could not get into this book. I was in 8th grade when I read it. Maybe it just wasn't appealing to a 13 year old girl. 1dunno1
