Anti-terror police soon reached the spot through a helicopter. The police has blocked off the tourist attraction centre. Visitors have been asked to stay away from the monument for a day. Those who were in the queue were moved near River Seine.

I'm confused. Don't most people who are traveling carry backpacks? I would think they have a security team inspecting backpacks and purses before people enter the tower. I haven't been there for a few years, so I can't remember what the procedure is. I just remember the tower being surrounded by police or military with weapons.

I maybe wrong, but I thought by ascending he was climbing the Tower.

Or possibly they do not allow backpacks any longer.
