Dumbass, one of the reasons college became so expensive was the government got involved with grants and loans, creating an artificial bubble....further guaranteeing a governmnet stream of revenue will only increase the costs further... |

What about an 8 cent a month tax to feed the starving of the world? And since Democrats also believe that we are all people of the world, and are for Amnesty to Illegal Immigrants, then shouldn't we remember the starving on a death bed in other countries? Quoting: Mr.Machete Nobody is talking growing food in a shitty land of Africa.. Canned food donations? HAHAHAHA So after three weeks and my cupboards are bare and I have nothing left to donate. Then what? We still need 10 of thousands of "canned food factories" to produce this stuff. Not to mention a billion acres of good farm land to grow the food. We need a few million laborers ( but not the poor people, they can sit on their asses and wait for the handout) How are we going to transport this shit across the ocean? You gotta distribution method built. Um we are going to cross that 8 cent per person barrier, aren't we? Lets hear actual logistics details on this Great tax and redistribute plan? |

If you DON'T provide the rest of the infrastructure and an education, they will never become self-sufficient and this problem will persist. That's why I will only donate to causes that do it all. The TV ads and mainstream charities suck. Very little makes it to where it needs to go. And for the record... I'm DEAD against any tax to support it. Let me pick who I want to help with my money. Now if it were a wealthy government in the same country as the starving kids only taxing their productive citizens, that's a different story. Just don't ask the US citizens to pay for overseas poverty unless voluntary. We have enough shit to take care of here. |

Thanks for actually giving witty peaceful debate.. this was only something that i thought of very randomly... I wanted to see opinions on it. My own response is kind of contradictory (the taxation part). The working class here in the US is taxed to fucking death and we have a poverty/homeless issue. Heck, with our infrastructure and education system here, if we can't solve this problem with tax rates as high as they are, I don't know how it will work anywhere. Again, the answer must be in providing self-sufficiency (which we discourage here). Taking from the rich to lift up the poor never worked and never will. |

Most sub-saharian countries are full of prime quality arable land with a mild climate that allows two to three crops a year. When Zimbabwe was Rhodesia, there was no lack of food. When RDC was the Belgian Congo there was no lack of food. When Angola and Mozambique were portuguese or Equatorial Guinea spanish food was *exported*. Before independence there was more food grown in Nigeria than anywhere in the world save six countries. When Ethiopia was under european mandates there was no news of mass starvation. What happened? I believe if you want to help someone do it in person - by handing them your cash or actually helping them. |

It'd make more sense to me for the celebs with their huge $$$$ to stay in the background instead of asking for money from the ordinary Joe or Jane that can barely take care of themselves. Times are tough, a lot of people struggling out there. A lot of people probably don't even have a spare quarter to do anything with if they truly live paycheck to paycheck. |

But look at the world we live in, one really has to think about what they're told and what they see. How much of these donations actually make it to the people in need and how many just go into somebody else's pocket? That truly goes for anything. See these televangelists on tv asking for money, where does it go to? Does it go to people in need or does it go into the televangelists pockets? "God certainly has sent a blessing today! Glory hallelujah and Amen!" *thinks* Yeah, that blessing just went into my pocket. God, send me some more suckers my way! "Praise God!" Yep, I'm cynical. Have every reason to be tbh. We don't live in an honest world and doubt we ever will. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 70404033 Ukraine 09/24/2015 09:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Everyone relies on some form of wealth redistribution, especially the richest 1%. It is the nature of economies. Unless you literally squat on your own plot of land acquired through squatters rights and grow your own food to eat and sell at the market, you benefit from some form of wealth redistribution. If you own a home and have a mortgage, the government guarantees your home loan with taxpayer funded insurance. Same with small business and big business financing. Same with the energy, commodities, and equities markets. Virtually all business involves some subsidy from the governmet, regardless if the players are aware of this or not. Failure to understand this doesn't make you a conservative, it makes you a Fox News brainwashed slave. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 70118136 United States 09/24/2015 09:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You know i looked up statistics on this.. This issue is apparently way worse than i thought. Donating to Save The children is doing nothing. There are according to statistics 800 million people in third world areas that are starving. I understand people are barely able to rub two nickles together even in america. Thats why i suggested a really small tax of like 8 cents a month per person.. even if u work at mcdonalds, that like 2 cents out of a weekly paycheck. But, as we know, with how taxes work.. That builds up when you take 2 cents from 220 million working americans.. AND. There should really be an attempt on a Global scale to do this.. so 2 cents a week from 3 billion citizens of the world, playing theere part.. That type of taxation could maybe go towards fixing the problem all together.. But World Unity between government leaders is more far fetched than the 9/23 asteroid. What if it was us who's families had the misfortune of being born in Africa? Maybe just picture if you had that misfortune. If you could really put yourself there for a second, imagine your son or your.... let me stop, now im sounding like the tv commercials.. |
