It is not turning west. You need to look at the center of circulation, not the clouds that go around it. I so wish all of the storm mongers here and on Dr Master's blog over on weather underground would have experienced Katrina (or any other major hurricane) so you would know what you are wishing for. It is not fun, exciting nor is it cool to go out and take pics in. People and animals lose their lives. It is hell on earth for 3 hours, then a calm while the eye passes, then hell of earth from the other direction for 2 more hours. Stop wishcasting it into land and be glad it's not coming to the US. |

I'm waiting a bit longer before I say anything else, but I really thought this thing was gone. Unreal. I just keep thinking about Sandy. Sandy's position around the Bahamas was on a Friday, same as Joaquin. Sandy turned west on Monday, sped up and then made landfall. I'm just still watching this closely. Still time for many changes. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

I'm on the east coast which is why I'm watching closely, but in NO way do I want this to make landfall anywhere on the east coast. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

I am in SC, in the Orangeburg area S.West of Charleston. I have seen yards that now look like lakes, and houses that are surrounded by water. This is bad, as far as I can tell, we are pretty far off the coast in Santee. But the rain pour has gotten to the point of creating leaks in our ceiling and one small side has collapsed from the weight of the water in the roof. Many other sides are beginning to bulge. Me and my brother climbed up on the roof early and laid a few tarps held by bricks on the most damaged parts of the roof. We still have a few days of rain, and if this monster turns... the roads have been shut down, and the Interstate is closed. Hopefully it doesn't get that bad, because I have already been seeing peoples cars stalled out or covered in water. |

This morning these views said at the bottom "GOES-EAST" and now it says "GOES-FLOATER". I don't know if that means anything... [link to hurricanes.wikia.com] In meteorology, a floater is a satellite image that is focused on a particular event or location - normally a tropical cyclone or a disturbance. This is achieved by the use of cameras on geostationary satellites (also known as geosynchronous satellites) which orbit the Earth at the same rate the Earth rotates. As a result, the satellite "looks" at the same area constantly. This can be particularly useful in monitoring tropical systems because they will not exit the viewing frame or the camera. ---- The GOES - EAST is a satellite. A channel from that satellite was used solely for covering Joaquin. [link to www.goes.noaa.gov] |

In fact, he said during a press conference Friday morning that the beach erosion could be as bad as when Sandy rolled through. The beach dune is what protects the city. [link to www.wusa9.com] |

It just sat there, over them, for days, it was horrible thinking about those poor people with a giant hurricane sitting on top of them. Friend who follows this said the weather guys blew it big time. People on the bahamas' long island called a morning show and said they had no warning and couldn't evacuate. Had my friend very upset. There is no excuse for that. And then there were comments on weather sites with people saying there was so much water sharks were swimming in the streets. You can't ask your friends for links so I have to take their word for it that they read it but it creeped me out to think of that. |
