So - When it comes down to the everyday - service to self, or service to others....I find both suck.

It is in the balance between the Two - realizing that One's Self is Part of the Whole - and So IS every other Self out There.

Selfish or Selfless is like playing ping pong through eternity.

Great discussion everyone, all have valid points.

I believe that we as human beings will for ever be engulfed in conflict and war. We just do not function well as single entities, we band together under ideologies that best fit our current locale and lifestyle. Humans are incapable of true selflessness, that's just not in our programming. Therefore we are destined to a constant inner struggle of opposite values...

~Giving up buying a 6 pack for yourself so the kids could have candy.

~Doing something for someone without thinking what is in it for me?

~Doing good without being noticed, helping others without a thanks.

~Giving your hat scarf and gloves to a cold stranger without batting an eye.

~Surrendering a warm meal to a hungry strange though you are hungry.

~Praying for the well being of strangers.

Suspend what you normally do about anyone or anything, which includes even this note.  The natural development of genuine higher awareness is a total inaction toward anyone or anything that disturbs, confronts or challenges you.  You must see directly and completely without bringing your knowledge or your memories of the past.  You must be fully of the present looking at the present without separative, dualistic action or reaction. Whatever your inaction naturally and spontaneously does without selfish calculation will be the truly real and ultimate action.
