What is selfless action? A moment of reflection... | |

A clear and recent example of that principle in action. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1461298 Absolutely. In a case like this - wow. Totally selfless. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So - When it comes down to the everyday - service to self, or service to others....I find both suck. It is in the balance between the Two - realizing that One's Self is Part of the Whole - and So IS every other Self out There. Selfish or Selfless is like playing ping pong through eternity. :-) Unless you like that sort of thing. :Buddhaangel: |

Quoting: BRIEF No. Either way you look at it, the act itself is selfish...I'm not saying being selfish is a bad thing. It can be of course...all great things were done with selfish intentions. Funny, because my life is nothing but one thing after another done for others and it feels like pure shit. No respect, no recognition, no thanks and none expected because that is the norm. I do it because it's the right thing to do. Maybe you're just selfish and attempting to project your own flaws makes you feel better about yourself. Your selfishness lies in your bitterness for wanting recognition for your struggles and sacrifices. You are right to feel that way, that's what keeps you going, the knowledge that you did the right thing, satisfies the selfishness in you. It's not selfish to need support and validation through struggles. Otherwise we would be alone in our own universes. But you are alone. You come into this world alone, and you leave alone. You may make many friends along your path from birth to death, but ultimately you walked alone. I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

I believe that we as human beings will for ever be engulfed in conflict and war. We just do not function well as single entities, we band together under ideologies that best fit our current locale and lifestyle. Humans are incapable of true selflessness, that's just not in our programming. Therefore we are destined to a constant inner struggle of opposite values... :yinyang: |

The natural development of genuine higher awareness is a total inaction toward anyone or anything that disturbs, confronts or challenges you. You must see directly and completely without bringing your knowledge or your memories of the past. You must be fully of the present looking at the present without separative, dualistic action or reaction. Whatever your inaction naturally and spontaneously does without selfish calculation will be the truly real and ultimate action.
