Re: Regrowing store-bought lettuce.
Just started thinking of growing a patio tomato plant from a shoot that had a ton of maters on it. cut it down and another healthy looking plant shot up.From what I have read you can grow indoors.I had a pepper plant that did the same thing. Can't wait to have homegrown maters and peppers this winter.

Re: Regrowing store-bought lettuce.
I just did this Saturday to see if it would grow. How long did it take?
 Quoting: Viola2000

It only took about 2 weeks.

I have it in a small pot on the porch. It's been pretty cool outside, and I've been watering it every day. I was worried I was over-watering it, because the soil has been consistently pretty damp, but I figured since it was grown hydroponically, it would like a lot of water.

GMO crops are designed so you CAN'T "re-grow" them. The seeds die in cultivation. They also rot from the inside out.

Interesting, I am going to try some of these. Mostly need ones I can grow in the windows cause in the winter you can't grow outside here. And we have snow about 8 months out of the yr.

I hate GMO, I wish they were not allowed here in the US.

Re: Regrowing store-bought lettuce.
It actually works.

I was curious to see if it would grow back. That "live lettuce" you can get in the store. It will grow itself back. I had all the leaves ripped off of it from use, replanted it in soil (even though it was grown hydroponically), and now I have a brand new bushy head of lettuce.

Lettuce seeds are cheap as fuck!

Yeah, and why should I wait months for seed to sprout when I got my full head of lettuce in 2 weeks.

Most of the people posting in this thread won't make it for a week... A nutricious salad...growing in a water glass...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70483802

At least add some pee

Btw buy some seeds you fools, it's not that hard.
I grow stuff even in winter inside an appartment with nont additional light.

I had zucchini growing in my kitchen, cucumbers, tomatoes, cilantro, all chineses leafy greans, etc etc

Try with radish...easiest thing to grow...leaves for salads and the root as well.

You can grow corn sprout...cutting leaves and let it regrow. It taste like artichoke

Tons of things you can do...

But you have to try yourself to learn
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70483802

Never heard of eating corn sprout. I'll have to look into that, sounds good!

Not a fan of radish, but good idea about the leaves for salad.

Re: Regrowing store-bought lettuce.
I also read (although I haven't tried this one yet), that you can regrow a pineapple! By growing the pineapple top in a bowl of water.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38696865

Yes, you can. It's the napa grower again but I'm bound to be a different number today. :) It takes a long time to get any fruit, though! Still, it's worth it, for I also heard that foliage is good for the air in your house. Carrots take a long time to grow, wherever you grow them, but you can grow them for the green tops and just nip some off when you have some dish to throw them in. Turnips too, will sprout a good crop of greens for you.

Another one, if you don't live in a very cold climate: ginger root. Take one of those little 'thumbs' from a root you buy in the store and plant it shallow in moist, sandy soil. It'll sprout in about a week. Very pretty plant, and bugs won't bother it because they don't like the gingery smell that even the leaves have.

And, visit your feed store for a large bag of black oil sunflower seeds, the kind you give to the birds. Soak them overnight and drain, as you do for sprouts, then plant in a shallow pan. Keep the top moist but not wet. When they're about an inch high, eat them - just before they get fuzzy. If they get fuzzy, you won't like them and should plant them outside. Those are excellent nutritious greens that you can grow in your kitchen all winter.
