Because too much can go wrong if you start thinking you should use a gun to cripple a person in "non-vital" areas until they submit. That is just not how someone should use and think when they pull a gun.

The gun came up and the officer wasn't sure where it was going to stop and be pointed and the officer responded with shots to the center of mass until the threat was stopped. Sorry, but the officer wants to go home too.

Still a sad case.

Edit: Sucks for the cops. Talk about a sad day, try to talk a man and save his life, and still had to put him down.
