I lived in Walthamstow for almost 3 years and loved it.

It's a funny place; there's a main road, Hoe Street, running down the middle of it. On the right hand side basically everyone is foreign. On the left hand side is Walthamtow Village, which is a conservation area where you can't even put up bus stop signs or modern lamp posts, and is home to several upmarket restaurants and organic food shops- and mostly white families. It would have been a lovely place to raise children.

You really feel it though, as soon as you reach Hoe Street. Everything gets dirty and unloved. Tasteless signs above businesses, rubbish in the streets, groups of Asian and black men just loitering all the time... As it does anywhere with a large immigrant population, I guess.

And the most disgusting thing is that even though Walthamstow has this poor side, on the posh side, rents are still on average £1500 pcm for a one bedroom flat. Imagine paying all that money and having to deal with this shit to get to and from work every day (you have to cross Hoe Street to get to the station). As a white female (27), I don't think I would dare walk home alone any more if this is what it's like now.

I guess one upside is this immigrants will never be able to afford property on the good side. However, it's only a matter of time before they take issue with the 'white privilege' thing and come raping and pillaging, I think.
