Where did the Israelites come from before they were slaves in Egypt? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69935032 United States 10/13/2015 09:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Descendants of Abraham through his son Issac. After famine in Canaan the Hebrew went to Egypt to get food and decided to settle there but after many years the Egyptians made them slaves and they remained slaves about 430 years until Moses came along. |

Thanks, interesting, is canaan the land of milk and honey current Israel? Where there were once giants? It doesn't make sense to me, not if they came from canaan, to travel 40 years after the exodus to end up where they originly started? I'm confused |

The true israelites were never slaves to begin with. The egyptians actually accepted them in when they were fleeing their homelands. They came from the south aegean. |

I'm confused Canaan is basically the same area as what was to become Israel. It is part of the land God promised to Abraham. The Hebrew could have had the land instantly if they had believed in God's promise but they were scared of the "giants" there whom God would have destroyed for them but they lacked faith so God let that faithless generation pass and only their children entered the land 40 years latter with the few elders that had faith in God. |

And it actually took him 43 years. |

Isaiah 43:1-2 User ID: 15469851 United States 10/13/2015 11:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just posted the whole story of Abraham being led to Canaan by God and then about Joseph in Egypt and it wouldn't post. I don't know what word wasn't supposed to be used. I'm going to test: Jacob, Israel, Rueben, Pharoah and see if this posts. follower of Jesus |
Isaiah 43:1-2 User ID: 15469851 United States 10/13/2015 11:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay, I don't know what happened. The Jews were in Canaan and Joseph, one of Jacobs 12 sons, was too obnoxious for his brothers and they put him in a pit. I think it was Rueben who sold him to some Egyptians passing through. The brothers put blood on Joseph's coat of many colors given to him by his father so Jacob thought that Joseph was dead. Through the years Joseph moved up in the Egyptian gov't. and was able to interpret a dream of Pharaoh's. Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of saving the food for 7yrs. because there would be a famine for 7yrs. according to the dream. The brothers came to Egypt during the famine to get food. Eventually Jacob came and saw that Joseph was alive. Many Jews came for food and stayed. Later another pharaoh came to power who didn't know of Joseph and he forced the increasing number of Jews into slavery. follower of Jesus |

And it actually took him 43 years. God appointed Moses to lead the Jews out of Egypt. Pharaoh wouldn't let them go so God sent many plagues on Egypt but Pharaoh would only harden his heart against the Jews. Finally God told Moses to tell the Jews to put blood from an unblemished lamb on their door posts and lentels and the final plague which would kill the firstborn of every person and animal would "pass over" them. (Why they observe Passover every year) After all the deaths of the firstborn, Pharaoh let the Jews go. They were in the desert a short distance from where they began in Canaan, for 40 yrs. because they complained all of the time, wanted to go back to Egypt and they worshipped idols. They were told they couldn't save manna which God provided for them but they saved it and when they opened the jar, the manna was spoiled. Mostly they were punished for making an idol out of their gold and committing sexual acts in front of the idol while Moses was up on the mountain getting the Law from God. For that reason that generation had to die before they could enter the Promised Land. They deliberately disobeyed God and frustrated Moses until he lost his temper, which was why he was not allowed into the Promised Land. I think he hit a rock or something with his staff in anger and God punished him. follower of Jesus |

If he had not, they would have not completed their purpose and prophecy would not have been fulfilled. The "Great Work" as the elitists would call it. |
