Yup. I've been keeping up with the message board posts about 10, or so I thought - didn't know that I still would not be intruded upon with Update off.

Oh wait, too late now. Gotta reload. And Linux is worthless if you game. Real games, not the thrown together crap in the repositories.

Just reinstall Winblows if you want and turn OFF automatic updates, that should do the trick. If not, hack the registry and block windows update.

This is why you should disable automatic updating!

I'm never surprised by stupid forced updates because I have to manually choose to install them myself.

I have it dual booting win and linux. Tkme to get rid of the Windows.

Better yet, put windows update in your hosts file and set it to 127.0.0.1

That will make windows update impossible to update because the hosts file will redirect it to your local machine.

There have been a LOT of reports of MS using devious techniques to make folks inadvertently load X on their computers...many, many complaints.
I was quite happy with XP, was dragged kicking and screaming into 7 due to no XP support....don't much want to change OS again.

I did have update turned off! But apperntly the Service was still running but set not to update.

Once win10 is on, this no longer works.

They are quite devious. I'm not the suing type but they did to be knocked the fuck down a peg or two.

OP you have a month to roll it back.

Open up a command prompt and run as administrator.

type this command:

cd \windows\system32\drivers\etc

type edit hosts

Add windowsupdate in the hosts file and tab over and enter 127.0.0.7

Click on File, select save.

Reboot.

Windows update now will be impossible to execute because you have told the hosts file to point that domain to 127.0.0.1 which is your local machine. It will timeout and not connect to windows update.

To access this, open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.” You should see a “Go back to Windows 7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1” option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows install.

Really? Steam and all the Valve games that run betterin GNU/Linux such as Left4Dead, Ledft4Dead2, Half-life 1/2, Team Fortress 2, all the Quakes, DOTA2, CS:GO and a myriad of others are crap?

You can still run linux and steam. Steam games are supported on linux now. Also, you can even run a virtual machine on linux and install windows on a virtual machine. Try that.

1. right click desktop and create new text document.

2. copy this into it:

3. save text document as nowin10.bat

4. double click on nowin10.bat

5. it will uninstall win10 updates from win7 machine.

also after running the nowin10.bat, do a check for windows update and "hide" all the updates listed in the nowin10.bat so they won;t be installed again.

Format the damn drive
And install Linux
