Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 68994112 United States 10/22/2015 05:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work nights Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68994112 I am up while my daytime co-workers sleep in the other room... I have noticed a pattern... the afghan vet sleeps with a fan running in his face...a big box fan, can't sleep without it another female, sleeps with the fan...she is a former prison guard... another younger female sleeps with earphones in order to get to and stay asleep... is it mind control victims... or maybe pstd? could these people be to 'hyper vigilant' and can;t sleep unless something else drowns out the sounds around the house? I do 15 minutes checks on my wards...and I notice alot what do you think? Hmmm.... I dont know why we do it. I have to have a box fan going all night in order to sleep soundly. Even in winter. Its on now. I cant seem to sleep yet thou so i came to glp. I need the sound of the fan. Not necessarily the air. I point the fan away from my bed. I work days. Dont drink or use drugs. Late 30's. My family laughs about my fan noise but i like it. No ptsd. Im Christian. If I might ask...do you have any experiences in your life that might make you different than the rest of your family? any gaps in your childhood memories? witness any thing troubling? I don't mean to pry, but your example is exactly the type that makes me curious... the military Vets, I can understand, and one poster knows they suffer from PTSD, I have a neice that suffered abuse from her Father's Father...she testified, was in a study, etc, at 4 1/2, but by 18 she had no memory of it and told her brother and sister it wasn't real...but they both still have their memories....so the two don't talk to the one becauseit is like they came from different universes...(felony quality evidence gatheredfrom the oldest girl, grandfather was a high level Shriner, this incident is what started the opening of my eyes in 1988...have been awake for a very long time) Please don't answer if I have crossed a line... thank you for responding to the thread. Your's in Christ Jesus. C Saw |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 68994112 United States 10/22/2015 06:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I use a fan that way sometimes, otherwise when the bars let out there are a lot of loud people in the street, sirens etc., and people coming and going around the building and sometimes it wakes me up. The fan noise blends it all together so you don't notice the other noises. Works for me. I guess it's so foreign to me because, growing up and even now,I need to hear what is going on around me... Like when the horses would get out and would need to be put back, or when a baby chick got stuck between the feeder and the wire...or as an adult, when the baby was stirring... or when the dogs bark, who is creeping around outside... last night we had a bear in the neighborhood...I told my husband it was out there... then the guy across the stre et called and said one was about...and to be careful... My ears keep me safe, they tell what is happening in the world while I sleep... |

So when I was at that age of being afraid of the "boogieman" I knew (she being in her mid 70's) was too old to protect me. I was afraid to fall asleep because I felt too vulnerable. I was kinda like the one "on watch" in my mind. So actually turning the lights, tv, and fans off in my view was me allowing us to become vulnerable. It was much easier to feel in control by leaving those things on, as if I was still awake, until I fell asleep. If that made any sense. |

Quoting: ItsAllOneBigLie If I may be so bold as to ask, was your Husband ever in the military? Law enforcement? or maybe did he grow up with the radio on at night? My son's father used to 'rock' his bed by putting his foot against the wall and pushing...our boy as a baby was very easily over stimulated ... maybe begining to think that this might be a coping mechanism for over sensitive people... No he wasn't. He does heat and air. As far as I know he just has always slept with his fan on because he got hot at night, and now he can't sleep without it. If you grew up in a noisy household, then the silence feels creepy because you are not used to it. If it is very quiet and you hear slight noises then you might start imagining bad things, like a home invasion. |
